Rush / Re: Envy of None: New Album Review
April 12, 2022, 10:27:42 PM
It's ok, not terrible but not something I feel warrants multiple listens.  I suppose it's biggest strength and weakness is that it sounds nothing like Rush. As others have said, Alex's presence is quite hard to decipher.

Reminds me a little of How to Destroy Angels - Trent Reznors project with his Wife.  Maybe a little bit of Curve from the early 90's.  Not as good as either, though.

Great that it's been spotted before anything serious.  It's your heart, so you're bound to be concerned, but it's a fairly routine procedure these days and more common than you'd imagine.  2 of my Brother in laws had mini heart attacks last year within a week or so if each other and they both had stents put in.  Completely fine now.  All the best to you, Dom.

Been meaning to say...great work all around, Slim.  Thanks for setting things up.

Newcastle city council.  Absolutely Fucking useless - and there's no way to escalate an issue, complain or actually speak to anyone, since every department appears to still be 'working from home' and not taking calls.  Outrageous.

I've 2 planning applications in at the moment - submitted 7 months ago.  I should have just built them both.

I can send you the dvd if you send it back?
That is really kind and really appreciated - I think I already have it...I've got the second one as well.  I know that I'll just never ever get around to watching it.  I have very little 'me' time...by the time the kids get to bed, I'm totally finished...

Someone should have given Smith a slap after that acceptance speech.  Jesus.

Quote from: Slim on March 26, 2022, 08:05:02 PMWas sad to hear this. I never really connected with the Foo Fighters to be honest. Always thought of them as occupying that lowest-common-denominator space between pop music and rock.

There's a lovely anecdote from our erstwhile comrade Fred Barchetta on Facebook, by the way.
Their first 3 records are superb.  The first is essentially a Grohl does everything solo record - Taylor doesn't play on the first 2.  As a live band they were always superb though...great fun, playing every gig like it was their last.

One thing I've always noticed about that publication is that if there's one thing it's very good at, it's that.
They're right about their third record being the best...there's melodic beauty to that record that diminished in everything that followed.

Ever since Lemmy died in December 2015, I always get a little upset when artists die.  These people, to varying degrees, have made my life better than it would have been if I'd not known them.

A brilliant drummer, an essential personality within that band and a seemingly beautiful man.  I'm really sorry to learn of his passing.

Listening to Brussels Affair - the live show from 1973 that's included in the goats head soup deluxe box....Jesus, it is stunning, what a live band they were, just beautiful.  Worth checking out..

I quite enjoyed sleeping in the spare room for a week.  Bit like being on holiday.

All amazing shows...would love to see them at Liverpool, but June is already rammed...
