The boys car insurance came through last week.  Same as last year.  £4k.  Absolutely ridiculous.  5 minutes on comparison sites brings a quote £3k cheaper with a reputable insurer.  Still a joke, but still...

Read it in Sainsbury's...they do lay the blame at Neil's door, which we all knew anyway..not sure whether they really needed to explicitly state it.  We all survived them not coming over..and me personally, I'm grateful Peart did all those tours post 2002.

And no one seems to mention the elephant in the room..which is Geddy's voice.

Is the City Tavern still there, just along from the City Hall? I haven't actually been in there since the '80s but I seem to remember it being there last ttime I paid a nostalgic visit to the City Hall.
I'm not sure...don't think I've ever been there and, in truth, I stopped going to bars and pubs years ago..especially ones in the town centre.  I'm an in and out guy when attending gigs...

Quote from: Slim on December 09, 2024, 06:39:21 PMI heard yesterday that JG Windows, a music shop in Newcastle that was always the highlight of a visit there has closed this week. It was a really traditional old-fashioned city centre arcade store, with a basement full of desirable guitars. I bought a Gibson Les Paul there in 1983. When I started listening to jazz in the late '80s it was always the best place to look for jazz and fusion. I remember buying John Scofield albums there.
Everyone is dismayed at its closure.  I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon there as a kid.  They used to give me the promotional displays when they were finished with them - I remember getting a large cardboard remote control that was used to promote Power Windows, for example.  There was a very unsmiling but very good looking brown haired girl that worked there then that I had a major crush on.  Bought tonnes of vinyl from there and more recently, keyboards and pianos for the boy.  Staff in the instrument and record department were always brilliant.

They've been trying to find a buyer for a year but just couldn't get one.  It's a real shame...but it just can't compete with the internet.

The town centre has become a real shithole.  Northumberland St in particular is an absolute disgrace.  Take a walk down it next time you're up...

One of those guys...like Brian Johnson...that is just intrinsically nice.  No one has a bad word to say about him.  That, in itself, is something of a legacy.

For his long term health, a good decision. Really...they're all getting on, they should be thinking about jacking it in as well...

It's quite a good watch and as much as I don't like him..it's probably not a good idea replacing him.  Top Gear was never really the same after Clarkson and the others left...

Haven't heard anything so far that warrants him being cancelled.  He's a nob and sexist...that's part of the reason why he's watchable.

Inappropriate humour is funny...but you should know your audience and choose the time and place...and he's a cock as well, so see ya...

How would you go about determining that there wasn't a Lucy Letby type on the decisions panel? That's of course based on the assumption that the jury was correct.
Well you can't...although im not sure someone in Letby or Shipman's position would have got their rocks off sitting on a panel making the decision..

Quote from: Thenop on October 31, 2024, 06:48:12 PMNew The Cure album. It is very The Cure and not in a bad way. It's a bit laidback but they were never the most energetic band to begin with. Smith's voice is still there, no idea how, but it is. So far (halfway) this would be a worthy album on their way out.
Love the songs, but my god, the mix is absolutely terrible - no dynamics at all, everything pushed to 11, cannot make out the arrangements at all.  The final song should be a monster..but it's just mush.

Lucky enough to have been at the Troxy last night - they were brilliant.
