I alternate between an Oris and my Dad's old Rolex Air King (from 1975).

I bought myself a GMT Master II for my 30th Birthday - it was either that or see Rush in Toronto who were playing the same night.  I never wear it and it sits in a box.  Although its appreciated in value significantly, I do think I should have gone to see Rush - albeit, I did make a trip to TO a decade later to see them there.

I'm not sure I'm ever going to be able to retire.  The reasons why are a bit complex.  I run a family property investment and lettings business.  The process of splitting it up between the 3 owners will be stressful and expensive but it will happen at some point in the next decade.  Once that happens, I guess my workload will be reduced but I'll still be managing tenants and tenancies - I simply couldn't pass that on to a letting agency to manage..because they're all useless.

I am conscious that my dear wife is 4.5 years older than me and she deserves to be able to enjoy life a little more and not have a husband who can't holiday, for example in the summer because of tenancy changeovers and is constantly preoccupied with work issues.  That weighs heavily on my mind because, frankly, she deserves much better.

I paid off my mortgage is 2011 and then moved to a much bigger house in 2015 where I needed a large mortgage again.  I think it'll probably take me another decade to pay this one off - but the value of the house is about 7 times the outstanding loan amount, so there is that.

I've spent an absolute fortune on the house since 2015...I could easily have paid the mortgage off by now with that..

Never ceases to amaze.  For me, The Who only have 3 essential records...but they're so essential, it elevates time to one of the all time greats...

I was going to work my way through the studio discography earlier this year but decided to do Kiss instead. I think I'll start it now. I've just bought Pete Townsend's autobiography last week so it'll tie in nicely.

I can't resist a nice print - this arrived last week - 2 x A2 size signed prints to commemorate their recent Albert Hall Teenage Cancer Trust gigs. The quality of the printing is really quite beautiful, its almost like a proper painting, rather than something that has been knocked out from a laser printer...

All proceeds to Teenage Cancer Trust as well, which was an added incentive / bonus.

Gets the wife approval, which is nice.  Getting them framed up this week...

Quote from: captainkurtz on April 09, 2024, 10:58:31 AMWater getting in where it shouldn't is the single biggest problem for any landlord - hope you get your issue sorted..

My kitchen in Dulwich had a flat roof and some time in January 2002, it started to let in rainwater. The owners - a very well organised company in Finchley who'd bought the place from the previous landlord, who was idle - were brilliant about it, they had the roof recovered in about a week.

But the next time it rained heavily, water came pouring through the roof exactly the same as before. The new roof covering didn't even seem to have slowed it down. So I phoned them up and told them .. they couldn't believe it.

I can't remember if they offered to send someone round to have a look. But I was moving out of there in a couple of weeks' time anyway, so I put a washing up bowl under it, shrugged my shoulders and ignored it. As I recall I didn't get any more rain so it was the next tenant's problem.
Getting trustworthy and competent contractors is almost as much of a nightmare as water getting in where it shouldn't...

Vai was apparently Fripp's first choice.  Carey is an absolute monster behind the kit.  I'm all over this like stink on a tramp if it comes over the water...
