That first kingdom come record sounds better now than it did in 1988.  RIP

Quote from: Slim on January 09, 2024, 05:50:29 PMSorry to hear that. I remember that guy from interviews and articles in Sounds magazine way back when. One of their tunes used to get the odd play on Metro Radio - Kingdom of Madness I think it was called.
Alan Robson really championed them in the mid-late 80's on his hot and heavy express Saturday night rock show...on a storytellers night really takes me back to Saturday night in the living room with headphones on taping stuff from his show whilst my Dad watched the news or whatever.  Happy, innocent times.

Can't do a top 10, really.  But the best records I've heard this year:

Peter Gabriel - I/O
Queens of the Stone Age - In Times New Roman (gig of the year for me, as well)
Noel Gallagher - Council Skies
Feist - Multitudes
PJ Harvey - I inside the old year dying
Metallica - 72 Seasons

Enjoyed quite a few more, but not so much that they'd challenge the above...Alison Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Blur, Steven Wilson (although I hated the spoken word bits and there's something difficult to put my finger on that runs me up the wrong way about him...)

I haven't got the patience for new bands...I tend to listen most to music I've known for decades...

Incredible body of work..
Agreed. Really like the a Moon Shaped Pool as well.

Have you listened to The Smile?
Yes, mate.  Really like them - and looking forward to seeing them in March in Glasgow - have 3rd row centre seats..

Ordered a couple of Newcastle tops for Christmas on NOVEMBER 26th!  From the official manufacturer- finally sent yesterday - unfortunately, they use Evri, formerly known as Hermes...they were 2 hours later than their time slot, didn't knock on the door or used the bell and then sent me an email saying they were returning to the sender as they'd had 3 failed delivery attempts.  Complete fabrication.  Useless arsewipes.

True..I shouldn't have raised it, but I think it is relevant and it is bugging me.

Whenever an act of terrorism is perpetrated by someone purporting to be acting in the name of Islam, I feel both sick and guilty - I'm not practicing or a believer in religion, but I do respect the fact that I was born into a Muslim family.  I always try and call it out for what it is as does everyone I know...so to hear such deafening silence is disappointing.

Not as engrossing as I thought it would be

Squaring the Circle
Brilliant documentary on Hipgnosis by Anton Corbijn.  Well worth watching.

Quote from: captainkurtz on December 19, 2023, 07:52:05 AMWith the baddiel brothers present last night and with their backgrounds clearly having shaped the people they have become....was there no discussion of the political situation in Israel and Gaza?

I don't think it would have been out of line to have raised the topic, myself...

Really?  I wouldn't have like to see it discussed there, it's all about Geddy's life and book.  A chance to escape all that shitty stuff in the real world
Yeah....id like to have heard them all denounce the Israeli govt and the IDF for their continued bombardment and the loss of innocent civilian lives.  Rush were quick enough to denounce the similarly appalling Hamas attack...they didn't even mention Palestinians as Palestinians...it must disgust them, surely?

Did you see Geddys house?  I'd love a wander around that...

Better than Phil Jupitus, that's for sure.

Wish I could do London now...alas, no chance.
