Quite seldom I'll have a cocktail, but when I indulge I'll have a Tequila Sunrise or Margarita.

Mainly because I had a sort of tequila epiphany some 25 years ago while sitting on a friend's porch in Lancaster, California. Marvellous. :)

Quote from: dom on April 12, 2022, 05:59:25 PMWas it encouraged before the procedure Matt?

Generally, anything that keeps me fitter has never been off bounds (as long as I'm not overdoing it, of course).  My heart fortunately has always functioned normally, but it basically had a minor "structural" issue, being a gap (a "patent foramen ovale") that everyone is born with, but usually closes naturally with growth.

However, for about 25% of the population, which included me, it doesn't quite close up and, almost certainly in my case, just over six years ago it allowed a short-lived blood clot to pass through and travel up to my brain, causing a mild stroke.

Very long story short, I was put on mild meds while my case made it onto and up a waiting list until I had the occluder fitted early last year - nowadays a very safe and routine procedure.

I'm not so sure in all honesty.  I've watched 6 of 8 and haven't found this season half as gripping as those before.

Wow, dom, so glad this was diagnosed and treated before anything really serious happened.

As Hass says, heart treatments in particular nowadays are pretty remarkable. I'm a beneficiary of having an occluder fitted last year into my atrial septum via a keyhole procedure and high intensity exercise wasn't just deemed acceptable by my cardiologist but positively encouraged.

Of course, everyone's case is personal to them so I do hope you're back fully active soon.

It seems at Premier League level there's a culture of unfair scapegoating of managers.

For example, the reason Bielsa was forced out at Leeds Utd was because most of their players simply aren't good enough; at Man Utd, Ole had to go because they have superstars who simply aren't committed enough.

In both cases I thought the managers got a very raw deal.

Moving Pictures / Midnight Movie Club: Near Dark
April 10, 2022, 12:24:31 PM
Had an overdue undisturbed evening of watching a film from my Cinema Paradiso subscription; the next on my list was a film from the horror/cult genre - which includes films often regarded as "Midnight Movies": Kathryn Bigelow's 1987 vampire flick Near Dark, seen for the first time.

For the first half of its 95 minutes, I found it difficult to become engaged in the story of a small-town farmer's son who reluctantly falls in with a bunch of vampires, dividing his loyalty to his family.

But then comes...the bar scene, which elevates things spectacularly.  This sequence struck me as brilliantly Tarantino-esque, although it comes some half a decade before anyone would know of his name.

Although generally Near Dark is not without its flaws, there are some very intriguing themes at work which elevates this from the norm, as it were.  Well worth a look.

Tyketto - Don't Come Easy

A melodic rock album so good that even snooty music mags liked it.

It's stunning, that's why.

Watched the first part - waste of time, there's already been superior docs broadcast.  Won't be bothering with the second part.

Agree I have watched better documentaries previously, this one is a bit of a mess.

Yes, it just seems very unfocused; and the usually quite astute critic Mark Lawson is reduced to reaction shots and stating the obvious.

The forthcoming BBC drama with Steve Coogan looks far more interesting, if only to see how it can strike a seemingly impossible balance of an engaging yet non-exploitative drama.

Another iconic 80s film unseen by yours truly - Top Gun.

Definitely on the list to watch because the sequel will be released in May in IMAX format; and early word is that it'll be well worth the wait.

Tentative indications that the eye-popping case numbers of the BA2 wave may have peaked.

Hope so, as they seem directly proportionate to the amount of sanctimonious finger-wagging by the likes of "Independent Sage". ::)

Quote from: captainkurtz on March 26, 2022, 11:08:49 PMTheir first 3 records are superb.  The first is essentially a Grohl does everything solo record - Taylor doesn't play on the first 2.  As a live band they were always superb though...great fun, playing every gig like it was their last.

Yes - I saw them at Manc MEN on my 33rd birthday; and I remember at one point they did a bit of a "teaser" for YYZ.
