Train to London's been cancelled "This is due to a fault with barriers at a level crossing yesterday". Dude WTF?

Luckily there's one 25 minutes later, but it means I've lost my reserved First Class seat >:(

Need a new phone. Makes me grumpy because:

1. it costs me money
2. it costs me double because the wife and I have the same phone, always. It saves me the trouble sorting things out and setting up different phones.

I need a new phone because I can no longer update it and my bank app tells me it will no longer work for security reasons as of March. This one is 5 years old and works fine so that's my main gripe.

I feel your pain. I tried to make my first Reverb purchase last night. Good deal on a Black Friday Telecaster but messed it up. Reverb is probably one of the most straightforward sites to trade on but I think the fact that it was my first transaction alerted some bot which a younger person would have just worked around. I should really try again as it's still in my basket. It's only a Squier, but it's a limited edition colour which I stupidly missed when it first appeared as a FSR. Yeah. Must do better.

Picked up a set of new phones. Charging and then do the transfer. Brrr.. At least Google makes it easy with a step by step plan. Still, bound to fail.

Believe it or not (I still don't) but it went without any mentionable issues. Other than me sighing this is going wrong when it didn't.
So... onto Google nation then it is. Really only chose it for it's 7 year update policy, which is great, but it seems like an OK phone.

I heard yesterday that JG Windows, a music shop in Newcastle that was always the highlight of a visit there has closed this week. It was a really traditional old-fashioned city centre arcade store, with a basement full of desirable guitars. I bought a Gibson Les Paul there in 1983. When I started listening to jazz in the late '80s it was always the best place to look for jazz and fusion. I remember buying John Scofield albums there.

Everyone is dismayed at its closure.  I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon there as a kid.  They used to give me the promotional displays when they were finished with them - I remember getting a large cardboard remote control that was used to promote Power Windows, for example.  There was a very unsmiling but very good looking brown haired girl that worked there then that I had a major crush on.  Bought tonnes of vinyl from there and more recently, keyboards and pianos for the boy.  Staff in the instrument and record department were always brilliant.

They've been trying to find a buyer for a year but just couldn't get one.  It's a real shame...but it just can't compete with the internet.

The town centre has become a real shithole.  Northumberland St in particular is an absolute disgrace.  Take a walk down it next time you're up...

You're not much of a tourist guide, are you?

I'll Bigg Newcastle up, had a couple of nights there this Summer and really enjoyed it. Then again my local Town Centre only sells Tumbleweed these days. Had one of the largest open air markets in the country and now has four stalls if you're lucky. I blame Mrs S and all her internet shopping.

JG Windows did look a really nice store. Back in the 80s Chesterfield had a business called Hudson's, they had two record stores in town, a musical instrument shop and a Piano shop. By the 2000s it was down to a combined record/instrument shop. Closed permanently in 2011 - I picked up Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Blood Lust CD in the closing down sale.

Is the City Tavern still there, just along from the City Hall? I haven't actually been in there since the '80s but I seem to remember it being there last ttime I paid a nostalgic visit to the City Hall.

I'm not sure...don't think I've ever been there and, in truth, I stopped going to bars and pubs years ago..especially ones in the town centre.  I'm an in and out guy when attending gigs...
