The Met police will usually pander to Just Stop Oil protestors all day long. They'll prevent motorists from trying to overcome them. They'll even look after them, giving them bottled water when they deem it necessary.

It's OK to delay large numbers of ordinary people from going about their business. But woe betide you if you try to delay a Pride march.

What on Earth is going on?

A hangover. Yesterday was the annual Oxford pub crawl with my (mostly ex) BT work chums. This year it ran to 25 pubs and I was one of only three idiots to complete the challenge. Brutal

So unseasonably cold tonight for walking the dog I had to wear a coat and beanie.

And our usual few leisurely laps round the rec was disturbed by the racket of George Ezra performing down at the Piece Hall, which wafted up the Shibden Valley and at times sounded like it was just down the street. ::)

20 minutes of Radio 4's Today programme this morning giving a snapshot of some of the sh!tshows going on in this nation at the moment:

- an absolute clown of a BBC reporter describing republicans who will be protesting in Edinburgh today as "The King" is handed relics symbolising fabulous wealth and privilege as "nationalists"; WTF??!

- "Thought For The Day": this almost always is three minutes of pious drivel from a professional believer in the supernatural, but this morning featured a particularly deluded lady who subscribes to Christianity and Buddhism concurrently; WTF??!

- the deeply unimpressive CEO of Ofwat basically simping for water companies but, most annoyingly of all, using a superfluous "So..." at the start of every single answer. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHH!!!

Yeah that seeped through next to the political news here as well. Very sad news, it doesn't look good.

Been thinking quite a lot about my first job after leaving Uni recently. I worked for a branch of Rolls-Royce in Derby for five years. Tonight I googled the name of someone I used to work with. We were quite pally at the time. I hadn't seen her since I left Derby to go and work in London in 1994.

And - she died in 2022.
