Truth, it's a Moving Target - unlike the Sov Convoy heading for Kiev.

Quote from: David L on March 10, 2022, 07:23:21 AMI think the Ukrainians are getting more desperate to bring the west into the war. Something looks weird about the maternity hospital attack in Mariupol. That's a big building, completely wrecked - three dead? No curtains at any windows and no sign of fresh bedding or medical equipment. Probably not in use.....as a hospital anyway
BBC are wetting themselves
Yup. It had been cleared out by the Azov Battalion, so they could attack glorious Russian liberators.

General Discussion / Re: What's made your day today?

It's International Women's Day, so I made sure Mrs S did ALL the work round the house today:

"Change over that QR Skewer and stick the bike in the Turbo Trainer Bitch!"  :)

Quote from: dom on March 07, 2022, 09:09:57 PMPerhaps this is fake news and hopefully it won't be the case for much longer but apparently, at the moment, there are more Russian Oligarchs living in the UK than Ukranian refugees.
Good. They've got more money  :)

(For the moment..)

Quote from: pdw1 on March 07, 2022, 09:06:54 PMCar drivers who pull up to red lights in the cycle box. There is a reason it is called a CYCLE box.
It isn't. They're actually  ADVANCED STOP LINES  :) (Highway Code Rule 178 - yes, I spend my spare time reading the Highway Code...)

I always take great pleasure after someone has performed a needless overtake on me just before a red light with ASL in pulling up in front of them within the ASL and then taking an age to clip in when the lights turn green.

I was hoping for my first 50 miler of the year today, but the slow start to the year means my legs just don't feel up to it. Once again the wind didn't help either, not as strong as it has been, but a chilly Easterly.

I got to 45 miles though, making it my longest ride of the year so far and with 3,488ft of ascent my climbingest ride of the year too - even though I only took in one classified climb. It's the hills of the North.

Gears which you think are indexed perfectly whilst you have the bike on a repair stand, yet which refuse to shift or skip a gear when you're on the road  >:(

Drivers who give you a good gap when passing, yet are oblivious to the fact that they are now in a lane with a vehicle rapidly approaching them...

If I'd not taken them all back up to my dad's I could have entertained you with pictures from his family albums, although for some reason I don't seem to appear in many of them...

It was on of my dad's regrets that after his parents died, his elder brother cleared out the house and burned lots of old photos and other things of interest - like his dad's accounts of how best to kill chickens :)

Interesting that Ukraine is in the process of updating its road signage - and their using the British Transport Font

It was still blowy again today, but David Coverdale had been out and changed the Westerly to a Northwind. Still, it made a change to be slowed down in different places :)

Thanks to the wind change I almost broke 17 minutes on the Harewood Road climb, just two minutes off my best. On my good bike and with a tailwind I stand a chance of breaking 15 minutes this year - although looking at the cracks appearing in the road it won't be long before it joins the long list of Derbyshire roads closed by land slippage. :(

That's a 40 mile ride start for March, hopefully the weekends will stay fine now.

I stick to the roads, but you're still not free of all the dogs that are on the end of those feckin' extending leads  >:(  Dogs should be on a short lead by a road, don't these feckers ever read the Highway Code?

Quote from: Nick on March 05, 2022, 07:28:51 PMI think Boris will take this opportunity to rejoin the Eu and I think the U.K. population would go with the decision. United Europe and all that. For Boris it's a blessing to reverse the nightmare that was Brexit.
What?

With the threat of unstable third world countries like Ukraine, Albania and Georgia involved?
We don't want to be part of the EUSSR!!!
