Rush's Alex Lifeson Recreates the Hentor Sportcaster with the Lerxst Grace

The Grace guitar model is the latest entry into Lifeson's signature guitar series, and was created in partnership with Godin Guitars. The model is a modern reimagining of Lerxst's eye-catching red Hentor Sportscaster with a mirrored pickguard, which Lifeson played throughout the recording and touring of Rush's Grace Under Pressure album.

All his signature gear - amps, pedals, guitars - is fantastically unaffordable.

Yes, even the Epiphone LP Axcess is a bit pricey and it was supposed to be a cheaper option for folk with normal budgets. I notice it's quite well discounted at the moment, so can't be shifting too well. I would like one.

No doubt it's all quality gear, but there's kit for a third of the price that would probably do just as good a job; it all seems priced with the exclusivity element for collectors in mind.

I suppose I'm fortunate in that since the early '80s, Alex' taste in guitars doesn't mesh with mine at all. I could be tempted by a Lifeson signature 335, or an homage to the ATWAS Les Paul. But '80s style superstrats and Lesters with whammy bars on them, no.

Come to think of it I did really like those PRSes he played in the '90s.

I had the same when the Sabian Paragon series cymbals were introduced. I figured I at least needed to go listen, fortunately (they are expensive) I did not like them. They are very Neal: loud, lacks nuance and a bit clunky. Not for me and not for smaller size practice rooms and venues because they can be very overpowering.

I hated the look of LPs with trems when I first saw them. I'm kind of used to the Axcess model now and quite like it. I very rarely play my Les Paul but maybe because it's the 2015 edition with the wider than usual neck. I definitely didn't like those Canadian Signature guitars he played around ASOH time and for some weird reason I think he looks better with a Gibson than a PRS. I bought an Epiphone Dot Royale because it was the only affordable 355 lookalike in white that I could find at the time. Never play it which is annoying.

Forgot to say, I didn't think Alex seemed quite himself in the intro. Maybe hungover or something.
