Clear skies here hopefully so I'll go out and see if I can see a few late tonight.

Didn't realise they were happening until last night when a lady at the hotel bar asked for a plastic glass so she could sit by the pool and look out for them.

Clear skies are guaranteed where I'm fortunate to be at the moment, so I may be on the look out myself tonight.

Well I spent a pleasant 25 minutes on the lounger on a warm night. The sky wasn't completely clear. A few hazy ribbons of wispy cloud. But I saw three.

Late one night in Spain over fifty years ago, I was sitting with my parents and my brother at the bar by the swimming pool at the hotel where we were staying and we saw an unreal display of shooting stars over the ocean. It was only many years later that I realised it must have been the Perseids.

Nothing like that tonight, sadly.

We decided to take a short drive out to Wychwood Forest and witnessed at least ten shooting stars over about 30 minutes. A couple with strong, bright tails were the best we've ever seen.

The best meteor display I ever saw was a Taurids shower one warm and humid November evening in the early 2000's when I was in Fort Lauderdale; it was at the end of a night when I'd been on the sauce and the streaks in the sky seemed incessant, with some absolute corkers appearing occasionally.

And yes, even though I was steaming there was a group of perfectly sober people watching alongside me who could verify I wasn't hallucinating.  ::)
