Bronze for the Plucky Brits :)

And a first ever Gold for St Lucia in the women's 100m

Our man Sven Roosen 4th in the Decathlon. Best ever for a Dutchman. Great job climbing from 9 to 4 through the ranks.

Well, the Women's Road Race took off in the last 40k or so. Way to make a mistake by letting Kristen Faulkner go. Marianne Vos, the almost GOAT (she ain't Beryl Burton) never outside the top 10 in the Olympics road race.

Plucky Brit Pfeiffer Georgi in 5th, she could have done with a flatter hill through Montmartre.

Excellent race from Vos, Silver in her 5th(!) Olympic, Faulkner was very strong, she was the one leading Kopecky. Deserved win.
Too bad about the crash indeed, would have made for a different race.

Indeed, but that's racing.

Listened to an interesting conversation on 5 Live yesterday about how improvements in track surfaces and shoe technology, in combination with diet science, better training, statistics analysed by computers and all that have helped sprinters go faster and faster over the years.

Despite this, the women's 100m world record is still held by Florence Griffith-Joyner, who recorded her time in 1988 - 10.49 seconds. The men's 100m record has been broken many times since then but no woman has got close to FloJo's time.

She unexpectedly retired at the age of 29, just before mandatory drug testing was introduced.

Quite clear she was drugged up immensely. Saw the 400M women's series this morning, the WR is still from 1985, some DDR lady  ::)

I did read a couple of interviews a while ago with long distance runners. Nike and New Balance try to outdo each other contsanty on who has the fastest shoes. Mind you, these things cost a fortune and are done after one race, marathons are won by the shoes, well at least partially they are. Technology, eh?
