Really sad to hear this just now. Always liked her stuff, from the first time I heard Mandinka on a car stereo in 1988. A true original; not only musically.

Amazing voice - the lion and the cobra, I do not want what I haven't got and Universal Mother are incredible, albeit very downbeat, records.  I haven't listened to them for years because they're so emotionally raw.

As is always the case when something like this happens, I'll pull them out now..

When my wife told me I had an even bigger shock. I used to have a colleague called Sinead O'Connor and I bumped into her at lunch time and had a chat. My initial thought was that it was was her.
