The Picnic Wasp

Fifteen days after finally testing negative for COVID and I've developed a sore throat and what feels like the beginning of a heavy cold. I've read about COVID rebound but tested negative last night. I hadn't had a cold for years but since January it's been chest infection, COVID and now whatever this is. I'm putting this down to not mixing enough with people since lockdown shielding and the fact that it's now the school holidays up here and they're all over the supermarkets touching things.

I think we are in sympathy TPW. I felt rough again this morning. All achy again, sore throat after feeling better last week. Bums.

I was quite pleased to see that my local Tesco has reintroduced the sanitiser point for the trolleys, presumably because there's a bit of a summer COVID spike going on. It's easily the place I'm most likely to catch another dose.

Was supposed to pick Mrs G and Stepdaughter II up from Birmingham Airport at 0100 last night, but their flight was delayed. Picked them up at 0250. Back here at about 0350. Tired.

Just out of curiousity: what do these people make a year by approximation? The public broadcasting types I mean.

Top earner on the BBC was Gary Lineker, he earned £1.35million last year, high profile "talent"  will be comfortably in the 6 figure range...

Jaysus :o
We passed a bill here many years ago that is named after the prime minister then (Balkenende) to limit the yearly salary for anyone on a public service function (so paid by public money).
The limit is the same amount the PM makes a year. For 2024 that is about eur 189000 gross a year. That means TV presentors at the public broadcasters cannot be awarded more than that.

Yes, while he was off the air. Odd one, eh? But he's no longer employed by the BBC now.

Why is Tim Davie still in post? Probably because it's the BBC and normal rules don't apply  >:(

My YouTube feed seems to be becoming littered by nutters who spend their time filming in and around police and fire stations in a deliberate attempt to create suspicion and provoke a response from officers. When questioned politely about their activities they have a script of replies protesting that their actions are normal and within the law. Why is this not an offence in terms of wasting police time when we live in an age with the constant threat of terrorist attacks? Police powers seem to be constantly eroded and I fear we are slipping into an age of anarchy.

Just read about the Southport drama, what a tragedy. Whatever possesses a 17 year old to do something like that is beyond me.

Feel sorry for all involved.
