Last night I put a note in the News section to say I was going to take the site offline for a server update and snapshot. Then I forgot about it. I'll just do it now I think.

Quite - I'll swear something for the coronation alright, which by the way there is absolutely no constitutional requirement for.  As well as being technically unnecessary, it's a bizarre, archaic ritual with no place in a modern society and of course a scandalous waste of tax-payers' funds.

I wonder if Harry will swear it.

We had new blinds fitted in the living room, and yesterday I got round to removing the little double-sided hook that the cord was tied round on the old blind. It was screwed directly into the frame of the UPVC window.

As soon as I'd got one of the screws half way out, water started to come out of the screw hole. The frame must have filled with rain water. About half a litre streamed out of it. And yet the water was really clear. And the screws holding it in place didn't have so much as a spot of rust.

I guess there must be a drainage hole in the frame on the outside that's blocked. I'll have a closer look when I can.

Due to financial regulations I had to employ the services of a financial advisor a while back to tidy up my personal pensions having changed jobs a few times over the years. I was told that this company was probably the best of the bunch in the town where I live. I can only describe his company's service as abysmal. I received a letter this morning summarising our latest meeting (in February!), full of mistakes and only sent to me after I emailed him two days ago to let him know that I had taken care of consolidating two of my funds myself, having waited since May 2022 for his company to do something about my request.

I probably reminded him about this request four or five times during the past year, by email, 'phone and face to face. It kind of sums up my feelings about customer service these days.

I put my eBike in to the dealership for its first service recently. Returned to me without its pair of rear panniers. Quite sad really, but I try not to get hot under the collar anymore as it doesn't serve any purpose.

Everything post covid seems to be like this now.  Abysmal service - and yet I am CONSTANTLY bombarded with email and texts asking me to complete a customer satisfaction survey.  Even popping into Waitrose for a load of bread - an email asking me for my opinion.

That said, I had a baxi engineer out this morning to sort a boiler issue in a tenanted property and he was outstanding both before and during the appointment.  Ironically, I haven't been sent any requests about how satisfied I am..

Yes, those surveys are a real pain. I didn't want to go on earlier but on visit to the vet this week my dog was prescribed a short course of steroid tablets for his ear infection. The dosage instructions read take one tablet twice daily for two days, then one tablet each day for three days. They gave me six tablets!!!
The vet is a good distance away so I phoned on Thursday asking them to post a tablet to me. Needless to say, no tablet in this morning's mail and it's a bank holiday Monday.
A couple of weeks ago I thought for the first time in my life, I would need to physically throw someone out my house. A guy came to inspect my electricity meter to make sure it met today's requirements. I just stopped myself typing current requirements.😁 He then announced I would need a smart meter as mine was more than fifteen years old. I refused to accept this and he closed my front door, stood against it and proceeded to interrogate me for several minutes demanding to know my reasons for refusal. Eventually this very large guy marked me down as a super refuser and warned me against giving any further callers a difficult time, despite the fact that our argument had been carried out in a professional way. Completely infuriating!

Avoid smart meters.  If you've got eyes and a WiFi connection it's easy to supply utility suppliers with readings.

You'd be amazed how often smart enters give incorrect readings - and never in the consumers favour.

There's so many things I'm pissed off about at the minute, it's unreal.  I can't wait to retire and become a recluse.

They really are tossers. I got a call from EDF (again) telling me I had to have a smart meter. Once more I politely refused only to be told, like you, that my current meter was old and - get this - unsafe. I'm like, really! So I took her name and made an official complaint which led to a grovelling apology a few weeks later stating that my current meter certainly was safe after all. I've not been bugged again either.

I think you lasted longer than I would have. They are just bullies that have to meet a quota. I'm not sure why they deemed your meter needed inspecting - at least you'll know if they try that again. Which company was he from?
"Oh, for the wings of any bird other than a Battery hen."

Quote from: The Picnic Wasp on May 06, 2023, 10:33:01 PMIt was a Scottish Power rep.

Took Scottish Power to the Glasgow Sheriff's Court a few years ago, for not paying me compensation I was due after I got the ombudsman to tell them how shit they were, and how much they failed me as a customer on every conceivable level.  They paid up before the case was heard, funnily enough.

This was around the time that OFGEM found that Scottish Power's so-called service was so bad that they were temporarily banned from canvassing for new custom.

Amongst stiff competition they really are the worst utility company that has ever existed.  Check the Trustpilot reviews...
