The glory days of French cycling are long gone.

When I first started watching cycling on the tv there was Hinault and then Fignon. Not one winner since then, so I'll celebrate the little victories when they come.

Gaudu is a solid professional, good at climbing and not a wheel hugger.

Surely the true wheel huggers are the sprinters? 99.9% of each stage that they have a chance of winning is spent being supported by their team mates so they can show off that burst of energy to get them first over the line?

But that's their job :) Sometimes they have to freelance it though.

The French wouldn't like Gaudu to win anyway. No panache. That's why they love Alaphillipe, the Brits like a plucky loser, the Frogs like a flamboyant loser :)

Tim Merlier wins the European Championships Road Race. Entertaining race, much better than yesterday's women's race.
Plenty of attacking from MvdP

Thenop

Yes, MvdP was up for it, our Olav Kooij just nicked second place, well done!

Pogi pulverised the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. Looking ominous for Zuerich.

Nickslikk2112

MvdP got his first win since April yesterday on Stage 1 of the Tour de Luxembourg. Kept the lead today by coming second. The leader's jersey makes it look like he's riding for Lidl-Trek.

So Remco takes another title on his golden bike. Well deserved.

Remco retains his World TT championship. Plucky Brit Josh Tarling came 4th, don't know how he lost tiem in the last 10km though, unless he had a not as bad a moment as Jay Vine.

Grace Brown also did a Remco winning World and Olympic champion, yet won't race in a Rainbow jersey as she's retiring.

Medals for GB at last!

Cat Ferguson got Gold and Imogen Wolff got Bronze in the women's Junior Time Trial.

I know that at U23 level next year they are looking to stop World Tour and Pro Team riders competing, but both Cat and Imogen are on Women's World Tour teams aged 18, Cat for Movistar and Imogen for Visma Leaseabike.

Nickslikk2112

Much against my expectations, today's Team Time Trial relay was a good watch! Australia pipped Germany by 0.85 seconds with Italy another seven seconds back.

Nickslikk2112

Cst Ferguson wins Gold in the Junior Women'a World Championship. Hasn't finished outside the top 3 in any junior race this season. Is she the female Evenepoel?

Plucky Brit Imogen Wolff came sixth after having ridden into a ditch a one point.

Nickslikk2112

After half a gold yesterday - the Italian who won has a DeeDah father - and a Bronze GB in the men's Junior race there were no medals for GB in the men's U23 race, but plucky Joseph Blackmore got a respectable fifth in what was another entertaining race.

All this is as nothing though because a young Swiss lass died after falling and hitting her head in the Women's junior race yesterday. :'(

Thenop

A very sad day indeed, only 18 years old  :'(

Another good race and Lotte Kopecky retains her World title. Thought she was gone with 15km to go, but she musr have been riding within herself.

Bring on tomorrow.
