Switching off the laptop, 2 weeks (and one day) of holiday.

That, and I ordered a new set of headphones which is always a reason for joy. I am a self declared Sennheiser fanboi, but I took the plunge and ordered a pair of Focal Bathys, wireless expensive cans. Really looking forward to these. Of course, something had to give so I am selling some stuff as well to balance the scale a little (they are not cheap). Picking hem up tomorrow morning and it will take a little while and a lot of music to pass a verdict.
The best part is that I always find myself re-discovering a lot of music becuase I am curious to hear what this or that album sounds like with these headphones.
They will reside next to my Sennheiser HD660, a pair of IE300 (in ear wired) and the True Momentum Wireless buds. I have a Sony WH-1000XM4s as well, they will go to my wife when she's worn out her XM2s. She is really happy with the ANC on these things and she is right, that part of fantastic. The sound is OK, but the Sennheiser buds sound better, and now the new Focals' will probably do those out again. But they live next to each other and have different purposes so that's OK.

Anyway, a long way of saying I am looking forward to a new pair of cans.

Visiting a trade show in Frankfurt, walked into one of the halls and it turned out to be the Festhalle where R30 was filmed. Nice architecture.

I've never been inside the Festhalle but my memory of it is walking past it one night in April 1997, turning a corner and suddenly getting a gobsmacking view of Hale-Bopp on a very clear night.

Receiving a proper letter in the mail from B&Q banning me from their stores nationwide.

Went to click and collect and waited an age to get my paint whilst clumps of staff were hanging about just chatting - as they always seem to do there.  Had a Michael Douglas in Falling Down moment.

Get escorted out by security with my paint.  Look down at said paint and it's for a Mr Singh - and completely the wrong order.

Putting more stuff up for sale on 'marktplaats' ((marketplace), basically the Dutch eBay with less stringent rules.
Sold 2 iPods in 5 minutes. I'm on a roll!

A 400-mile round-trip which included seeing a ground-out victory and a gloriously enjoyable 35-minute pit stop in Holborn during which I had two-and-half pints of Cruzcampo while cramming in a catch-up with a bunch of the old TNMS southern crew.

Usually I detest any reference to the "C-word" in the run up to December, but I've just pre-booked It's A Wonderful Life, showing at the wonderful Elland Rex on Xmas Eve morning - of course, I've missed this annual event for about 10 years running now (it always sells out) so I'm absolutely determined to finally attend.

Btw, I thought/assumed there was a dedicated thread for the film but I can't seem to find it, so maybe not.

I located my old box of cassette tapes, unopened for many years, and found this (among a few other gems):



I'm hoping that the "G.LEE INT" is an interview with Geddy by Metro Radio's John Coulson, in which Geddy expresses his appreciation that the Newcastle crowd sang along to Closer To The Heart, a new experience for the band. I think the "N.PEART INT" is probably an interview with Neil by Radio One's Richard Skinner. 1979 I think.

I do have a cassette deck in the loft somewhere, so perhaps we'll find out.

I also found a cassette with Alice in Chains' Dirt on one side, and Sinatra's Songs For Swingin' Lovers on the other. Catholic tastes, even 30-odd years ago.

It was the last day today for a temp who has been working alongside me for the last four months.  To my utter surprise she left me with a leaving gift: a mug with a promo shot of a certain Canadian prog-rock power trio on it.

Had a quite productive day today. Did a very small amount of bricklaying, repairing a part of the old garage wall. No bricklayers were threatened by the quality of the work but it'll do the job. Scraped the garage door and surrounds of all the flaking paintwork and repainted it late afternoon.

It's all a bit of a chore but I kept in mind what I would likely have to pay someone to do it and that kept my mood from dipping. I tried my hand at a small bit of wall rendering the other day. It worked out reasonably well so I bought a large bag of render base coat for stage two. Hope the weather stays dry for a while in case my enthusiasm wanes.
