I trust your mum had the best care in her final few years; my own family has learned how precious that is over the last 5 years or so ourselves.

My mum died on Friday, a couple of weeks before her 87th birthday.

She was generally a happy person and not even dementia could rob her of that. The last couple of weeks were quite difficult where we knew she was passing but was still with us (with only the occasional hand gesture to prove it) but just the week before I was with her at my cousin's 60th. Spent the night dancing in her chair and chatting with family.

The next morning she had completely forgotten what she'd been up to the night before but she said "my heart is full"

Mine is broken now but I'll remember that night rather than her last days in hospital and also what a great person and mother she was.
