I made a comment on facebook the other day about this song. I said I thought it had never been played live which was a pity as I've always liked it.
I was wrong, it was played live. Here is an early 'train wreck' version before P/G was released from one of the Radio City shows

I've always really liked that tune; to me it's emblematic of my personal acceptance of Rush material that didn't have to be intense and dramatic. It could be fun, jaunty, accessibly catchy. And by 1984 I was fine with that.

I love the bounce in the guitar part and the syncopated rhythm. I'd never heard a live version before, nice to hear those. Like Red Lenses, a very underappreciated tune.

'Jaunty' is a perfect way to describe the tune, jaunty and exuberant. I've always thought that the 'Kid' in the title suited the nature of the tune really well. The beat has always reminded me of a spring lamb bouncing in a field........or a kid goat, perhaps!
Coincidentally, you could say the same thing about The Analog Kid. Yes! Youthfully exuberant!

Full disclosure - I scrubbed straight to Al's solo.

Not sure how the tempo compares with the studio version but it sounds a bit faster; the performance overall at least sounds adrenaline-fuelled.
