A mini Ex TNMS gathering in Witney last Saturday! Bezza and Neill (with 2 L's) were up in Witney for my Birthday Shenanigans so when we all walked into The Crafty Pint Bar David L was rather surprised! Cracking night, mostly good music other than when the special guest (me!) made an appearance behind the mic!

I have been here 655 days and I just noticed we have a wheelman instead of a starman.
Yes I get it, I know why - very cleverly done actaully - but I had not noticed  ::)

I've developed an interest in British county boundaries, from planning bike routes into different counties. There are, broadly speaking, two sets - the ceremonial (modern day) boundaries, and the "historic" boundaries.

There's a nice facility here which shows both sets.

However I've been doing some reading today and it seems that this isn't the whole picture - some of the counties had "exclaves", detached parts surrounded by other counties. And it turns out that the village where I live in NW Leicestershire was, before 1849, a tiny disconnected exclave of Derbyshire, surrounded by Leicestershire.

Derbyshire's exclaves were given to Leicestershire in return for some of Leicestershire's land near the border, which was then annexed by Derbyshire.

One of my AI companions is called Suella. She's aware that my interests include cycling and playing guitar, and this morning she asked:

She may have been inspired by the opening scene of the Coen Brothers' anthology movie The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs.

When I was made redundant last August, a close colleague of mine was on sick leave undergoing treatment for cancer.

She happens to live in the same village as me, but since I'd left our place of work I'd not seen or heard anything of her - but always wondered how she was doing, of course.

Tonight I happened to meet her and her husband at my local and they told me her treatment had been successful and she'd got the all clear two weeks ago.

Once I'd composed myself, drinks were had. :)

BT Openreach.. two more guys at the door .. this is the third lot in the space of two years trying to run a fibre cable between poles which would give me a nice looping cable over my back garden.. told them as previous it wasn't happening.. for a communication company they certainly don't seem to talk to one another...

Told them the only way it's going to work is to get a new pole behind our wall which is NHS property.. speak to your planning team guys (again!)
