Very happy today. Getting the fourth letter on my first guess was a big help but it took about four minutes for my brain to rattle about with options until the penny dropped. I like this puzzle, probably because there's quite an element of luck as well as thought process, so I don't beat myself up too much on bad days.

Now that the spoiler risk it out of the way, here's hoping for a few days of non American vernacular or US spelling. Unless it's a Monday/Tuesday of Vapor/Trail.

Quote from: pxr5 on October 09, 2022, 03:52:47 PMI'm not really a lover of minty chocolate, but those pyramints were different somehow.

Whilst we were on a mini break in Shropshire last month we found a chocolate shop and bought some handmade Walnut Whips. They didn't taste great, but we hadn't realised they were vegan when we bought them. Don't ever bother, just get a normal Walnut Whip - yum.

I have a good friend who is vegan and she occasionally buys me sweets and chocolate. Some of it is very expensive stuff, more so than I would pay for a quick snack, but I just can't get to grips with it at all. It just doesn't have that quick rewarding fix or texture that I crave. Maybe I have a lazy palate.

Oh yes, I couldn't remember those until I saw the Google image. Don't think I ever had one but would definitely try one now if they were still around. Probably tasted like Mintolas. Thinking of those made me think of Mint Cracknel, one of those bars that could be slightly painful to eat, like Toblerone. Some textures of confectionery I find irritating.

I must be less lazy and figure out why I can't post images. I really enjoy seeing the images you put up, James.

Old Jamaica! I think the pirate in the TV ad used to pronounce it Jamaikay. I liked it although it wasn't a regular for me. I don't think I've seen it on the shelves although the wrapper might have foxed me. Ive seen Fry's Orange Cream recently though. Perhaps there's regional tastes and consumption for certain things. I believe Amazon sell the five centres variety. I'd like it if the Amazin bar came back. Texans, Trophies and the like. Quite a number of items I liked or at least used to buy which didn't have the staying power. Recipe changes are a bugbear of mine though. Milky Ways aren't as good now (Flytes were more like an old MW but I don't see them now) and Double Deckers were fantastic originally but now seem designed to break teeth.

My goodness, Fry's Five Centres a real blast from the past. My mum liked Fry's chocolate and I can remember when I was really young she used to give me a milk chocolate bar called Fry's Five Boys. I remember it had pictures of young lads on the wrapper with various expressions, but I can only recall that one of them was crying, which I seem to remember I found a bit disconcerting. It must have disappeared in the 60s. I also miss Cadbury's Bar Six which I usually think about when I have a Kinder Bueno, but they're not as good. So many good sweets have disappeared over the years. No one I know can remember the Suchardette which I loved.

Thank goodness for that. Was dreading two failures on the trot. About three minutes. Forgot to time it.

Excellent. Cash buyer, those are the words you want to hear.

Good luck. It's such a stressful process.

Well, I wasn't expecting this! Up until now I've had a few boosters and felt a bit fluey and out of sorts for a couple of days. However, last night after yesterday's Moderna vaccine I had to take myself to bed early as I felt so bad. Spent the whole night in a state of ache and confusion, not the usual mild 'flu discomfort but a full on deep seated pain. Even turning in bed was absolutely dreadful and a slight back strain I had from earlier in the week chopping firewood had turned into a severe issue. I'm glad I have dogs as they made me get up or I think I'd still be in bed not improving as quickly. My lasting memory of last night will be trying to mentally solve this problem which didn't exist and trying to formulate a way that I could submit it  as a dossier to help other people. Crazy! Totally out of it. Feel really sorry for my sister. She got the same vaccine coincidentally on the same day and has some important stuff to attend to this morning. I hope this Moderna drug works.

Depends what you read I suppose. Good lengthy articles online on this question by BMJ and Imperial College. Tends to lean towards natural immunity not so good as vaccination, but various arguments for and against. I get a bit of arrhythmia when I'm not feeling so good and I think my booster is causing this today. However, I've not had COVID yet, so who knows what effect that might have. A young woman checking in for her booster today had had COVID recently (more than 29 days ago as is the vaccination requirement) and the medical staff were happy to get her jabbed.

First track very appropriate- Still Rainin'

Can't believe he recorded this at just 17. What a talent.

Visited the town hall for my booster and 'flu jabs this morning. It was very busy but extremely well organised. Things were running like clockwork with only a 10-15 minute or so wait for the jabs. A couple then arrived the wife waving her letter about.
"I've got a letter but he hasn't but he's ILLEGIBLE" announces his missus. The nurse on the desk remained professional but was probably laughing or crying into her mask. However, she managed to sort the additional admin fairly quickly as the queue at her station grew longer. She assured them that it would all be sorted out by the time they got to the front of the vaccination line and ushered them to the relevant waiting area. They waited five minutes and then marched out without their jabs.

Got my 'flu and booster jabs this morning. Quite pleased that it was the Moderna vaccine this time but expect I'll will feel dodgy tonight and tomorrow if it follows the course of previous experiences.
