Quote from: Matt2112 on December 10, 2024, 02:11:03 PMThe young 'un came home from school the other day singing Carols Of The Bells, specifically from the version by Pentatonix, which she is learning in music lessons.

So we've been watching and enjoying that on YouTube a lot, but I couldn't help having a look at a (lovely) sub-two minute solo classical guitar version, which also helpfully has tab.

Long story short, last night I started attempting to learn it, but didn't realise it's much trickier than a proper professional player makes it look, so I almost abandoned it within two minutes; I'm a strummer and picker, not a fingerstyle plucker, and my brain wasn't having any of the alien shapes and changes required.

But I persevered, and within an hour my playing resembled something like the video, albeit very rough around the edges, being a bit slower, more hesitant etc etc

But I was delighted and surprised I made decent progress from scratch and I'll be practising it regularly now.

I've been considering a new acoustic recently. Whenever I play now I find myself just noodling away with too many effects. It's fun but lazy and doesn't really improve my playing. I have an old Simon & Patrick acoustic but quite like the idea of a Baby Taylor. Shorter scale length so the strings will have less tension and will be easier on these old fingers. I also need more discipline. Earlier this year I started to learn A Design For Life with some encouragement from Nop & Slim. Those chord changes were so difficult for me but I began to make a bit of progress. However, I hadn't played it for ages and when I tried recently, it was almost back to square one. No substitute for putting those hours in.

Being told this morning that my increasingly worsening neck and head muscle pain of the past two to three weeks is not the giant cell arteritis which I had feared, but rather muscle spasms which can be treated with painkillers and physiotherapy.

My sister spotted me struggling with this over my shoulder. Her suggestions were ridiculous. She just doesn't get Wordle. About four minutes once I accelerated the process indignantly.

Quote from: Thenop on December 02, 2024, 06:15:48 PMNeed a new phone. Makes me grumpy because:

1. it costs me money
2. it costs me double because the wife and I have the same phone, always. It saves me the trouble sorting things out and setting up different phones.

I need a new phone because I can no longer update it and my bank app tells me it will no longer work for security reasons as of March. This one is 5 years old and works fine so that's my main gripe.

I feel your pain. I tried to make my first Reverb purchase last night. Good deal on a Black Friday Telecaster but messed it up. Reverb is probably one of the most straightforward sites to trade on but I think the fact that it was my first transaction alerted some bot which a younger person would have just worked around. I should really try again as it's still in my basket. It's only a Squier, but it's a limited edition colour which I stupidly missed when it first appeared as a FSR. Yeah. Must do better.

Quote from: The Picnic Wasp on November 29, 2024, 07:56:06 PMUnbelievably I actually feel quite sorry for King Charles. As supreme head of the Church of England he will have to commit an act of complete hypocrisy by not using royal prerogative to appear to be displeased by this decision. It would only be a token gesture but would be a far too perilous action for him and his.

Not that I give a toss what he thinks, but I think he probably approves.

His old fella probably would have. Young Chic probably listened more to his old mum. Just as well his Christmas Day broadcast is filmed whilst the leaves are still on the trees. Lets him off the hook nicely.

Yes, thuribles being swung anywhere where smelly people gather. I love the smell of incense.

I do genuinely spend considerable time trying to envision what might result from such suggestions. I can't help but think that the world would be worse.

Unbelievably I actually feel quite sorry for King Charles. As supreme head of the Church of England he will have to commit an act of complete hypocrisy by not using royal prerogative to appear to be displeased by this decision. It would only be a token gesture but would be a far too perilous action for him and his. Then I remember the Act of Settlement and I no longer feel much sympathy for the guy. In any case, how can a person who purports to be a follower of Christ completely ignore the word of his God. "Thou art Peter.........." No thanks, one of my ancestors was a tyrant who liked to murder innocent women to get his own way and he's provided me with a nice, powerful role in my own church. The whole thing's a total mess but so is the country. The UK is halfway down the toilet already. If Donald decides to save a few bucks we might be part of a fireworks show.

Quote from: Fishy on November 29, 2024, 04:52:26 PMShe says he would constantly say inappropriate things to her, such as making comments that his wife was only two years older than her.
"It made me uncomfortable," she said. "What am I meant to say in response to that?"

Maybe it's me but that's a pretty innocuous remark surely..

I think he's just a bit of a balloon. Nothing else.
