Enjoyed the first episode of Silo and Hijack.  Just seems to be so much out there to watch these days.

Saw The Pope's Exorcist.  Very impressed with Russell Crowe's Italian (and English with an Italian accent)

Quote from: Slim on July 31, 2023, 08:54:01 AMHelmets are overrated. In 40,000+ miles of cycling my head's never collided with anything of greater mass than a wasp or a twig. I do wear one occasionally but more often than not a cap or dutt is more suitable.
I always wear a helmet. I'm too afraid of Mrs S not to. They might helped prevent concussion in a low speed fall, but anything serious and they are worthless.

I fell off the bike a couple of months ago - completely my fault - ended up with a cut above the lip and various bruises.  I'm almost certain that the helmet (the first point of impact) saved me a trip to the hospital at least!  First fall in approx 5 or 6 years and the helmet wearing was 100% worth it.

If that wasn't enough of an incentive, just like your missus, Louise would be fuming if she saw me leave or come back without wearing one.

It's a bit like seatbelts.  It's pretty unlikely that they will be required on any single journey, but if they are are you'll be very grateful for having them.

Same goes for contents and buildings insurance

if it's any consolation , you're probably not really hungry.  It's just ghrelin, the hunger hormone, telling your brain that you are.  Human bodies are designed to be capable of going for long periods without food;  so if dinner is still a while off tell ghrelin to piss off!  ;D

Other Music / Re: Sinéad has passed

Amazing person, unique voice and seemed to be passionate in all she did, reflected in her music.

Just listening to Last Day of our Acquaintance - amazing!

When my wife told me I had an even bigger shock. I used to have a colleague called Sinead O'Connor and I bumped into her at lunch time and had a chat. My initial thought was that it was was her.

Quote from: dom on July 26, 2023, 11:32:17 AMCoutts is an elite bank, managing the accounts of the privileged, royalty and wealthy.  From a pr perspective they wanted to hand him over to their parent bank. Ordinarily that wouldn't be an issue at all, if it were a completely private organisation. The fact that its parent was bailed out by the British public means it should have considered that when it made its decision. There's really should have been nothing more to it than that.

Where they really went wrong is incorrectly briefing the BBC of the real reasons why it chose to move his account and it's right that the CEO was fired when she was discovered to be the culprit.
And the real reason they wanted to close his account was because they didn't like his politics.
"Pr perspective"? Who knew Farage banked with Coutts?

Absolute baloney

Good point, it really backfired on them.  I'm sure if they could go back in time they would leave well alone

He wasn't cancelled. I'm sure he has the resources to cope with the ability to move bank accounts.  His freedom of speech certainly hasn't been curtailed.  Haven't heard so much from him in quite a while.  I don't have
Quote from: Matt2112 on July 26, 2023, 09:58:20 AMI don't particularly hold a candle for either of them; I will say though that GB News haven't been peddling the narrative that fires are "raging across Greece", or asserted Sardinia is experiencing temperatures of 47C while the BBC's own weather app has them at 32C, because the former measures the ground while the latter measures the air.

Bad faith reporting seems to be all across the political spectrum and it's a challenge to navigate a course through all the BS.
temperature there did pass 40C on Monday and Tuesday. 47C does seem to be an exaggeration although it's possible that Palermo might not be the hottest part of the island.

Quote from: David L on July 26, 2023, 07:06:30 AMCEO of NatWest, Alison Rose, has resigned. Well done Sir Nigel. Well done GB News. Proper investigative journalism. The complete opposite of what's on offer at the British 'lying' Corporation.
I doubt any other bank will now close anyone else's account for being friends with tennis's GOAT.
;D  ;D

Umm Dan Wootton?  Neil Oliver?  GB News is a cesspit offering the worst of British culture and the nadir of journalism.

Give me the BBC anyday

The Nigel Farage story is a consumer affair issue - the type of thing the BBC covers week in, week out in shows like Money Box.  It really didn't deserve the attention it got and all the UK media is to blame for giving it so much focus.  It's not like he was even deprived of the ability to bank

Watching Tour De France Unchained covering last year's race. It's brilliant!

Quote from: Nickslikk2112 on July 15, 2023, 02:53:29 PMDon't normally post during a stage, but gutted for James Shaw - and other abandons - as I won't be able to say I get passed on the roads by a TdF finisher. Looking interesting so far.

Ditto for Bardet. He's not at his best level but it's a real shame injury ended the tour for him

The Lost King. Decent film about the exhumation of Richard III.

Bet you'd be fully supportive of them if it had been a Conservative minister.

Depends on the Minister😂
