You could be right but what reason do you give for the oil states to invest so much into football. They have zero chance of making any money out of the venture?

Well it looks like the prize chattel of another club used for sports washing will be on the move this Summer.

Mbappe has said he's not going to renew with PSG. Fascinating to see where he ends up. I'm guessing Real Madrid or Chelsea. If Man U become another oil run club they will be among the favourites to land him too.

Outside bet - Newcastle decide to show off their financial, oil fueled muscle and land one of the biggest talents in football.

Quote from: Slim on June 10, 2023, 09:45:54 PMNot sure City are winning a European final in the right way at the moment - they've looked surprisingly ramshackle and disjointed, but as I type they're quite likely to bring the trophy home to Blighty.

Foden will rue fluffing his line if Inter get a goal.

Five minutes of normal time remain.

Not quite sure that it has been brought back to Blighty. In general over the last 25 years the EPL has become more and more international, less and less English. Foreign owners managers and players all outnumber their English counterparts. Fans attending matches are  still probably mostly English but they are dwarfed in numbers by international supporters watching from home.

And specifically in the case of Man City, it has become a sports laundering device for Abu Dhabi. It really is Abu Dhabi FC. Looks like Newcastle are heading down the same path and Man Utd may well follow suit.

All owned/to be owned by repressive countries, using the EPL for a bit of good pr.

First fondo since October '21 yesterday. Met up with my bike buddy in Bective and decided on a flattish south easterly route to Maynooth.

I'm still intermittent fasting so the first 45k was done without having had breakfast before or sustenance during the trip.  As a result I felt fully justified in going for the full McDonald's including strawberry milkshake when we arrived in Maynooth. Perhaps unsurprisingly I began to develop stomach pains on the homeward leg and had to stop in Summerhill to allow the American fast food to settle. I got back to Navan to find it backed up with traffic heading to the Harry Styles concert in Slane. With 97k on the clock, I had to keep going to get to 3 figures so I prolonged the journey a little. That's my stent's first fondo. I like to think it enjoyed it!

I can cope with turning the shower to cold for the last 30 seconds. Not sure I'd manage the whole shower though!

Michael Schenker coming to Dublin in November.  Anyone seen him recently?  I'm thinking I'll go unless there is a view that he is past it.  Never seen him live so I'm leaning towards going.

Listened to it last night Slim - thanks for that.

He fell down the stairs at home, believe it or not.  The drug abuse over the years really must have taken their toll.  He broke all his ribs and couldn't stop bleeding following the fall and his body had to be packed up with gauze etc to stop the flow. Think he had something like 10 transfusions during the 2 months in hospital. Years of needle use almost certainly caused that.

He had recovered somewhat towards the end and there was talk of him returning home but he passed before that happened.

Jenny also mentioned that the album he spoke about in the autobiography was done and dusted.  Not sure why it hasn't been released.

Quote from: dom on May 09, 2023, 10:33:56 PMHe does talk about the dry ice during Xanadu and how they used to crawl around the stage un-noticed. Geddy confirms that once he found a pair of slippers nailed by his bass pedals 😁

Still in the heady days of the 70s at the moment. Can't wait to read about that encounter!

No mention of your encounter unfortunately Slim.

Quite a sobering read though. He was married 6 times and 2 of his partners died from overdosing. One was an American doctor who used to write prescriptions to ensure they had enough morphine etc to keep them both going.

He wrote the autobiography about 5 years before his death.

He talked about a biographical album he was putting together "Walking on the Edge" - was it ever released does anyone know?

His cause of death was not given as prostrate cancer or cardiac arrest or even overdose, as could easily have been the case, but from a serious accident that occured 2 months before he died. Does anyone know what that was?

A seasonal circadian rhythm perhaps?   In the late spring/summer months it happens to me frequently.  Woke up at 4.10am this morning, although as is usual I didn't take too long to drop off again. Blackout curtains may be a solution. 🤷🏻♂️

Shooting a few of the local bird population!  Can't they do their wooing at a more reasonable time!
