Rush / Re: Caress of Steel - Album Discussion
March 17, 2022, 01:00:25 PM
I think Caress of Steel was the first Rush I heard. A mate was badgering me to listen to this "ace band" and he brought CoS and Hemispheres around to my house. So Bastille Day was the first song for me. I admit it sounded a mess on first listen and I left the albums for a while, before eventually giving them a try again. I fell in love with Rush then. I loved and still love Caress of Steel and it's definitely in my top 5.

Quote from: Rufus_the_dawg on March 03, 2022, 02:07:37 PMI'm trying to buy The Wegde - very expensive waiting tfor a cheap one to come up on ebay.

Also after Demon- Heart of our time cd. I refuse to buy cds for £30

Some CD prices are plain crazy.

Just seen The Sentinel on ebay going quite cheap at the moment - I'll still keep an eye out for The Wedge.

Quote from: pxr5 on March 13, 2022, 06:13:20 PMYes, Pendragon's The Jewel is a tremendous album - for me Alaska tops any neo-prog song. Again their latest - Love Over Fear - is a stunning album, with some very, very good songs there.

Maybe a new thread is needed for neo-prog chat  :)

I will, If you have never listened to them check out It bites- Once around the world. Prog meets pop, Allan holdsworth style guitar solos mixed in to level 42 hooks and melodies. They are a sort of Pop jazz fusion prog band, very pop.

Yes, I know It Bites well. I have Map of the Past on vinyl, and will get The Tall Ships too one day. John Mitchell is their front man these days; he of Arena, Kino, Lonely Robot and Frost* - all of which I like very much, particularly Frost*.

The second season of the excellent Upload. 2 eps in out of 7 and only 30 odd minutes long each one. It has a lot of charm this show, with a decent amount of humour. 9/10 thus far.

All done with A Discovery of Witches, 3 series in total. The final series felt like they were just going through the motions to get it done; and only 7 episodes. For all 3 series: 7/10

Quote from: pxr5 on March 02, 2022, 09:42:42 PMJust picked up a mint copy of Pallas - The Sentinel from ebay for a few quid.

Is that the original album or the expanded version that was released years later (was that just on cd?). If its the original does it have its poster inside? What do you think of the music? I thought was brilliant back in the 80s, everyone at school was listen to the bloody "Smiths" and I was listening to neo prog and the mighty Hawkwind.

Very apt album for our times.

It's the original version on Harvest, gatefold. No poster, but according to Discogs only initial copies had the poster. I like the music, and these early albums have a nice 80s sound. I admit at the time Pallas passed me by and I'm hearing these LPs for the first time. Have you heard their later albums? XXV from 2011 and Wearewhoweare from 2014? Fantastic both.

I'm up to date with TWD and FTWD, but I only managed a couple of episodes of The World Beyond. I'm zombied out methinks. However, All of Us are Dead looks interesting.

2 singles have now been released from the new album - Closure/Continuation schedule for release 22 June 22.

I've got the album pre-ordered, but I'm not keen on these single releases (much like The Future Bites) as when the album eventually appears half of it will be out already. I like to hear an album as a whole - to get the context. Anyway the 2 singles so far:
