Quote from: Thenop on April 25, 2024, 06:06:12 PMOur manager at Feyenoord is now being rumoured to be the next Liverpool manager. Not happy, obviously, but it is well deserved if he went. Let's see how he gets on then.
Mind you, nothing has been decided or signed.

Not a fan of the rumour mill at all, but this sounded credible considering the source here in the Netherlands.
The BBC are reporting on it too:

Avatar - The Last Airbender   I know the original has a sort of cult status but I haven't seen it, so I came into this new series cold. 4 elemental power controlled by 'benders'. Of course we need some malice and the fire benders are the baddies; but they are kept in check by the Avatar (who can bend all 4 elements). This new Avatar turns out to be a kid and it's his adventures we follow here. The story is good, so too are the action and effects. The script and acting are really poor though (maybe it's supposed to be like this). Everything looks clean and cartoonish (again maybe they where trying to do it like this) but I don't find it appealing at all. I'll stick with it as I rarely give up on a show no matter how poor.

Finished Constellation last night. It ended suddenly with a few loose ends so hopefully it will carry on to anther series. It's a bit mind-bending and takes some concentration to try to know what's actually going on. Good though 8/10

Just seen it - a brilliant movie, though I did prefer Part 1 a little more.

General Discussion / Re: Retirement
April 22, 2024, 07:23:34 PM
I couldn't wait to retire either and luckily circumstances allowed me to quit when I was 54 (I'm 60 later this year). I have no regrets at all; similarly when I left the military after 26 years I didn't look back and while there were some elements I missed 26 years really is enough for anyone.

Mine and my wife's pensions leave us quite comfortable and we haven't had to draw down on any of our savings but we won't be getting our state pensions for quite a few years yet.

I love being able to do anything I want to, when I want without getting up at 6am like I used to and going away for work to shitholes I would never have wanted to visit with people I would never have socialised with.

Constellation - I'm halfway through this now (8 episodes) and at first I had no idea what was going on. As it progresses it is improving a lot. Nice to see Jonathan Banks in something other than Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul too. I suppose you could call it an intelligent Sci-Fi. Interesting.

Useless weather forecasts. Today - 0% chance of rain so we decided to build our new shed. Half way through and torrential downpours on and off all afternoon. Fuckin' waste of time reporting weather in the UK. We started at 10am and only finished at 6pm.

Prog for Peart

A two day music festival in Abingdon, Oxfordshire set up in memory of Neil Peart of the band Rush which donates all profits to brain cancer research.

I've just found out about this. A bit far to me, but I'm tempted - especially the Friday.  Friday 12th July & Saturday 13th July.

A few years back I was using Powerline adapters but kept getting issues, so I bit the bullet and wired my house with Cat6. My router/BT socket is in the middle of my house so I had to run 2 feeds around the inside of my living room then out through an air brick, around the outside wall of my house then drilled 2 holes (one down and one upstairs) and fed the cables through those. I've got my own termination kit so did all the RJ45s myself. It made it easier with my CCTV system too which is in my loft as I just had a feed out and down through a soffit and through the hole in the wall to a switch. The only wifi devices I have are phones, alexas and internal cameras.
