Quote from: pxr5 on March 27, 2023, 01:29:30 PMStarted the second series of Carnival Row last night. As good as the first series so far.

I see too that series 4 of Succession has just started - as always I'll wait until they are all out before watching.

I'll make sure I use the spoiler function when posting in the Succession thread then!

60km spin on Saturday, longest since Nov 21!  22 really was a start stop and never really got going. Hopefully 23 can be a bit better!

Watched Split which I found utterly enthralling. James McEvoy must have loved playing that role playing 5? different characters.    Anya Taylor Joy was excellent too. Only very loosely could it be called a sequel to Unbreakable which I also watched this weekend.

Sesson 4, the last😓 of Succession starts on Monday. I re-watched the last 2 episodes of S3 in preparation.

I absolutely love this show. The Roys must be the most dysfunctional family out there but also the most entertaining. Who will come out on top? How much more humiliation can Kendall take? Will Rome survive sending a dick pic to his dad? Will Shiv come on top despite her brothers' and husband's best efforts. Will dim but relatively mild mannered Greg continue to survive in this nest of vipers. Will the slightly deranged Connor end up US President. And will ready for the grave Logan outrun them all? I can't wait!

Quote from: Slim on March 19, 2023, 07:03:55 PMI wonder if Arteta was a bit naive risking such a strong side in the Europa League? He may never have a better chance to win the Premier League.

Perhaps, 6 changes were made for the game which I thought reasonable.  I was worried that the injuries, the psychological and mental impact of playing 120 minutes plus penalties would have adversely affected the team. The result today suggests not.

Cycling has been a bit hit and miss this year. I'd like to get out more but circumstances have not allowed me to.

I got out on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend for the first time since probably last autumn this weekend. Only short spins. The interesting thing about them is that I'm giving intermittent fasting a go. I'm trying the 16:8 method where you don't eat for 16 hours then you have an 8 hour window when you do eat. For me that means ensuring that I've eaten by 8pm and then skipping breakfast. It's going ok but since I started 3 weeks ago whenever I went out for a morning spin I always had something to eat beforehand.

Then I discovered that when you wake up you have something like 2000 easily available calories in your system. So I went out without breakfast to put it to the test. I brought a banana with me and knew there were a couple of garages and shops along the way if I bonked, but no all good. No need to stop or eat the banana and I went around in the sort of time I would expect.  Think I'll keep doing this for a while anyway.

I think City are favorites and this is only reinforced with the news that 2 key Arsenal defenders are likely to be out for a number of weeks following the Sporting Lisbon game.

Saliba has been a sensational player for Arsenal. So quick, so skilful. Holding, his likely replacement, is just solid and safe. Has nowhere near the same level of quality.

City have the easier run in. They have to play Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool all at home. Arsenal play the same teams but all away.

A good comeback by England who were playing for pride and World Cup places after that devastating loss to France last week. Ireland are on a different level to everyone else at the moment. The key question is can they maintain this level through to the World Cup.

Wales played some of their best rugby of the tournament yesterday and although the result was never really in question it is a little concerning for France that Wales managed to score 4 tries.

Caught the first episode of season 3 of Ted Lasso - excellent show and seems to be maintaining its high standard.

The Boston Strangler enjoyable but not really ground breaking. Keira Knightly convinces with her American accent.

Patrick Vieira has been sacked at Palace. He started off so well with them but with no wins since before the World Cup, the writing was on the wall. Seems their strikers have forgotten how to score.

A potentially costly Europa League exit to Sporting Lisbon last night. We'll see how much of a toll extra time and penalties has taken with the quick turnaround to Palace on Sunday.

Injuries sustained to Tomiyasu and Saliba will hopefully not be too serious.

I'm currently reading "How Britain Broke the World" by Arthur Snell

it looks back over the last 25 years of Britain's International Affairs from Kosovo to Iraq, Afganistan, Libya through to Brexit and Ukraine.

He is perhaps giving the UK more importance than it is due but so far its an interesting read

I've just realised how similar the title is to Slim's tome above (bar the verb) - be interesting to compare the conclusions the respective authors deliver

That's pretty impressive. Great question! If it had been Neil Peart I'd say that might have been a first draft.

Nice to win a game comfortably without troubling the heart! Thanks Fulham! They weren't quite on their game and Arsenal took full advantage.

11 games to go. I had a little look at the remaining fixtures, a little optimistically I think following today's game. Draws at Liverpool and Newcastle and a loss to City would be 7 points dropped. City would need an almost perfect record to beat that.

Injuries and sendings off/suspensions can derail but Arsenal have put themselves in a fantastic position

FA Trophy quarter finals yesterday  saw wins for both Barnet and Matt's Halifax. Wonder if we get to meet in the semis or wait for Wembley. Draw is tomorrow afternoon.
