S6 Ep 12

Penultimate episode; written and directed by co-showrunner Vince Gilligan and possibly the finest hour of dramatic brilliance he's ever put on screen.

There will be Emmys for this - just sublime, stunning stuff.

If the final episode is anywhere near as good then this series will go down as the best I have ever seen.

A trip via boat to Lindos to visit the Acropolis, prevailing through the challenging heat, steep uphill walk and dicey terrain to recreate a couple of photos I took there 10 years ago - but this time, of course, with a special little companion. 😉 8)

A whole afternoon on water slides - always a highlight of me jollies.

A couple of my splashdowns were a bit painful where it hurts, so even if you have the balls to go on the most thrilling slide, there won't be much left of them afterward.

Quote from: Matt2112 on April 12, 2022, 10:29:30 PMQuite seldom I'll have a cocktail, but when I indulge I'll have a Tequila Sunrise or Margarita.

Mainly because I had a sort of tequila epiphany some 25 years ago while sitting on a friend's porch in Lancaster, California. Marvellous. :)

For the first time in absolutely ages, and due undoubtedly to the fact that coastal Greek towns have really good cocktail bars (with a kids' play area to boot), I had a Tequila Sunrise this evening, which frankly, after all this time, was almost like taking methamphetamine with an orange juice chaser; I couldn't stop talking.

That wasn't even the highlight: the little Miss's mum had a 'Pink Elephant', which I sampled and was so extraordinary I took a pic of its ingredients so I could faithfully report them here:

"White Rum, Banana Liquer, Coconut Liquer, Pineapple Juice, Grenadine".

A few of those and you realise where the 'Pink Elephant' comes from... ;D

There were two live Premier League games showing side by side in the poolside bar yesterday: Newcastle vs Notts Forest (which had the sound on) and Leeds vs Wolves (which didn't).

I was sitting in front of the latter while listening through headphones to Halifax Town's media team's commentary of our game at Barnet, where all I heard literally every two minutes was: "This is really poor from Town".

With Leeds drawing 1-1, the TV timed itself out and switched off - as it turned out, only a few minutes before Leeds's winning goal.

Meanwhile, some Derby County fans sitting on the adjacent table were having a far more enjoyable late afternoon than I was.

Quote from: R6GYY on August 07, 2022, 02:50:20 PMSo we watched the 1st Mission: Impossible film on All4 instead.

If anyone is interested in these, All4 currently have all 6 on offer to watch for free. With ads of course.

Funny you should say that, Reg.  I've been planning to work through the M:I films in sequence - I think I've seen only the first three and those were obviously a fair while ago now; got to say the prospect of ads puts me right off though, so it might be a case of just sticking them on my Cinema Paradiso list.

Quote from: dom on August 06, 2022, 05:11:05 PMHope the Greek setting was a big enough distraction during away the commentary Matt!

Yes, it needed to be!

Sounds very much like a real horror show of a display from us and Barnet strolled to a comfortable and deserved win.

The only silver lining is that we have good competition for every position in the team, so I expect there'll be a major overhaul for our first home game next Saturday (I'll be arriving home in the wee small hours of that morning).

Travelled about 2,000 miles roughly in a south-easterly direction today, which culminated in me being told at a hotel reception: "Your pronunciation is very good". ;)

Greece, I've missed you. 8) :D

A BBC reporter has just used the word "nonplussed" as if it means "indifferent".

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhh!!  >:(

Quote from: dom on August 04, 2022, 08:36:49 PMLooking forward to the big game of the weekend in London. The West Yorkshire titans taking on the sleeping giants of North West London. Wonder how Barnet v Halifax will play out. Halifax were strong last season whereas Barnet seem to have found a home in the lower reaches of the national league.

As soon as the fixture list was released I booked a return rail trip to King's Cross (and it's an easy tube journey from there to Canons Park), fully intending to travel.

However, long story short, I subsequently had to schedule a holiday which clashed, so I rebooked my tickets for Maidenhead on 2nd Sept (a few southern-based TNMSers / BTWers are meeting up for this game also - everyone welcome 😊).

So I'll be listening to the match commentary under a parasol by a swimming pool, probably. 😎

The "taking the knee" gesture is to be dropped for all but the most high profile games in the Premier League this season.

What a relief.

This was apparently agreed by a consensus of team captains, perhaps realising that the (literal) stance of players like Wilfried Zaha carried far more weight than superfluous performative rituals that were preaching only to the converted (the overwhelming majority of people) and wouldn't change any minds already poisoned with racism.

Also, this surely will only benefit the profile and great work by the Kick It Out initiative, which, lest "progressives" forget, has been in place for at least couple of decades in one form or another.

S6 Ep 11

Titled: 'Breaking Bad'.

But still not quite what I expected. And that's what this show does so brilliantly: subverts your expectations, while still making absolute narrative sense.

Only two to go...

Why not just enjoy it like Wrighty and every other fan? 🤷🏻♂️

What was she angry about?

From what I can gather the lack of corporate interest and investment when the women's game didn't have such a high profile - i.e when she was playing.

Quite an unfair and bitter take, it strikes me.
