General Discussion / Re: It's gone!

Glad we're still in touch, Dom. I did wonder when it would go offline. I used to work for a hosting company and it could sometimes take a few days for someone to get round to switching a doomed site off. Glad I had a look half an hour ago and saw last-minute messages from Terry and a few others.

Other Music / Gigs

Saw Sea Power last night at Rough Trade in Nottingham. They're doing a small "stripped back and signing" tour to promote their new record. Played as a four piece, without Abi (viola operator) or Phil (keyboards, cornet, occasional third guitar). The set was only about 65 minutes, tiny little venue that's a sort of annex off a bar and it was mostly the new material (with a bunch of oldies at the end).

I queued up to get my CD sleeve signed and Yan (singer / guitar player) recognised me and asked how I was doing, which made my night! Presumably I'm a familiar face from my forays down the front at gigs in recent years.

There's always a wonderful atmosphere at Sea Power gigs, a real sense of community. All four of the band present were having a drink in the bar before the set and no-one bothered them apart from one punter who politely asked Yan to sign a poster.

OK so if you use the REPLY option rather than Quick Reply you'll see an 'Attachments' option. You can browse images on your PC there and upload them as part of a post - they have to be 128KB or less. Here's a random pic of a bike as a demo.

Cycling / Sir Jason Retires
February 24, 2022, 08:50:05 AM
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/60470420

Great Britain's most successful Olympian has decided to retire, not much left for him to achieve in his chosen sport I guess.

But what I find odd about that piece is that although it mentions his knighthood more than once, he's consistently referred to as "Jason Kenny" rather than using his title. Ditto Laura.

Can't seem to shrink mine to the required size, are you able to help James?

It's not an image actually, it's a set of blocky characters that work on a webpage. if you do the 'share' option on the Wordle page it will copy the result to your clipboard so you can paste it.

Copy & pasting photos won't work here but I'll look into setting up a photo attachment option.

Been watching Reacher on Amazon Prime. Will start a thread about that tomorrow I think.

I've given the new Sea Power album, Everything Was Forever a spin through today. Like it a lot and the new songs I've heard work better as part of the album than they have as standalone tunes. I don't think I'm going to see it as one of their very best, though. But nothing to complain about.

I hope Slim knows what he's in for! We'll have TNMS 2.0 to run/moderate before long ;)

Well - I want to maintain a degree of humility about that, because no-one has appointed me to be the guardian of the Ghost of TNMS. From my point of view I'm just happy to be able to keep in touch with people without using the Facebook group. However people can of course have what they want, so I'll sort out a TV / Film forum later today or tomorrow.

Lucky with the first word today, but unlucky with the guess that followed. Got it in two, yesterday.

It was deliberate, since it was your own idea to have that forum. Just a small token of recognition but if you do see duplicate posts, obvious SPAM, misplaced topics or whatever, please do delete or move them if you would.

Cycling / Re: Cycling Apps

Strava is excellent, a real Swiss Army knife of an app. If you're a paid-up subscriber you can call up any of the routes you've saved in your account to follow the track on a map while you're cycling.

For people who aren't subscribers and therefore can't save routes in Strava, a good one for following tracks while you're pedalling is GPX Viewer. Pretty simple app - you create a GPX track (lots of utilities on the web to do this) and upload it to the phone. I use Gmail for this usually. Then open the GPX file with the app, mount the phone on the handlebars and off you go!

I believe it uses Google Maps so if you have the area in question downloaded as an offline map, you won't need an Internet connection while you're cycling. Most areas do have decent mobile broadband coverage these days, though.

I assume there's an iPhone version as well.

Couple of things .. first thanks to the new members who have joined, happy to be able to keep in touch with all of you.

Secondly - the "forgot my password" function doesn't work yet, because I haven't set up the email config for the site. I'll look into doing that at the weekend. In the meantime if you do forget your pass or have any difficulty logging in, pls email me at:

Also - to make the topics a bit more readable I've taken the liberty of importing a few avatars from TNMS. I hope no-one minds, but if you do please delete them from your profile, or let me know.

Fascinating that Van der Graaf are still going in some form. I only have one of their albums, Godbluff. I also bought a Peter Hammill solo record not that long ago - can't remember what prompted me to do that. Called Over and released in 1977. Surprisingly mainstream.
