Food and Drink / Re: British Fruit In Season

Not so impressed with Scottish strawberries this summer. I've bought from a few sources so I don't think it's just bad luck with my purchases. They seem generally harder and not so sweet. I've taken into account it could be a post covid reaction but I'm thinking it might be down to climate or different growing practices. Quite disappointing.

Quote from: The Picnic Wasp on July 21, 2024, 12:33:00 PMJust did another test (my third) and again negative. So it's just a stinking cold and cough. Bit of a waste of LFI tests, especially as they're quite pricey now, but best to know I suppose.
Why? Because now it's just a stinking cold and cough  :-\

I'm not sure I understand your question, David. Might be as I'm not firing on all six at the moment.
Why is it best to know if you have covid or not? That's what I meant.

Oh, I see. Well in my case I'd had covid at the beginning of the month and I'd read about a condition called covid rebound where it can come back quickly. That might be an issue for me with my history of heart arrhythmia, so if I'd tested positive again I would seek help. Also, my sister is staying here meantime and she's in daily contact with someone who is recovering from a recent heart attack, so it would be unfair to put him at unnecessary risk. I still feel that even though there is no stipulation to isolate, it's a bit reckless to visit public places if you know you're positive. I'm all for the herd immunity principle but who really knows what each variant will bring.

Wow! What a find. Thank you. Not watched it all the way through yet, but this has breathed new life into some old things I haven't played in a while. This guy is a talent for sure.

Quote from: Matt2112 on July 20, 2024, 11:12:56 AMEx-footballer Geoff Horsfield's career was spring-boarded between 1996-1998 after 70-odd appearances for Halifax Town, when his goals - at a rate for us of 1.6 per game - were a major factor in our return to the football league at the time, but it was only last year when I actually met him: former players from that glorious era were invited to The Shay Stadium for a league game and I was the beneficiary of a pre-match hospitality package.

I was taking a leek in the gents and he came in and used the urinal next to me.  So of course I thanked him for what he did for us and quickly went over some away day memories and he was not only extremely gracious but inquisitive about how the currrent team were playing - the conversation ended with us shaking hands after having a laugh about making sure we'd washed them first.  :)

I worked with someone who played with Geoff for a while. Maybe at Carlisle, or Scarborough?? Anyway, he spoke very highly of him.

Fifteen days after finally testing negative for COVID and I've developed a sore throat and what feels like the beginning of a heavy cold. I've read about COVID rebound but tested negative last night. I hadn't had a cold for years but since January it's been chest infection, COVID and now whatever this is. I'm putting this down to not mixing enough with people since lockdown shielding and the fact that it's now the school holidays up here and they're all over the supermarkets touching things.

Quote from: Slim on July 18, 2024, 10:59:26 PMPackham's autism is never quite so obvious as when he shares his complete disregard for the welfare of ordinary people just trying to get on with their lives.
Fuck him and his supposed autism. If he were really autistic he wouldn't be presenting TV programmes and eulogising criminals. He'd be down in his mother's basement counting his stick insects over and over.

FWIW I enjoy Springwatch and think we should be cutting back on CO2 emissions, but you'll never achieve your aims by wantonly pissing people off. Mind, you'll never be able to educate people either because 99.99% of the population is thick as pig shit.

The blessed Margaret was a proponent of tackling climate change - until it was hijacked by the dreadlocked, tree dwelling, unwashed, vegan, anti-capitalist rabble.

You should submit this as an attachment with your CV application for a job working in the Scottish football VAR control room. Like you they don't tolerate any kind of discrimination.😂
