Rush / Re: Hold Your Fire - album discussion

Very fond memories of this era, album, tour, artwork and everything associated with it. This was the time I rediscovered Rush, and have HYF to thank for it.

Its lush

yep, couldnt argue if someone did that.

If I was choosing 3 songs that I absolutely adore, but fly completely below the radar/deep cuts, then I immediately go:

Emotion Detector
Middletown Dreams

Its certainly a game of two halves, but then again so is CoS, 2112, Hemispheres, maybe MP

I certainly think a change of running order on AFTK would not have hurt

Camera eye vocals are very good (relatively speaking)

If I ever get the time and motivation, im going to analyse the number of words per rush song/per minute? , and see how that has increased over time

In a band where the vocalist became a significant weak point as time went on, the over reliance on words in the songs rather than instrumental parts seems like utter madness to me

If Alex has stopped being able to create solos, they wouldnt have suddenly starting going all Iron Maiden and putting 3 or more in every song!

I struggle to look any further than LVS (is it a song if there are no words?

If it has to have words, my 3 would be:

Limelight (its perfect!)
SoR (hear it too much now, but its just so joyful)
Xanadu (never get bored of hearing it)

 Hath-All that was promised

Dont imagine there will be many better extreme/death metal releases than this in 2022. Very good indeed

Killing is my Business by Megadeth is a very worthy debut

Do debuts count when its by a main member of a band who has then gone solo? if so:

Steven Wilson
Soulfly
Bruce Dickinson
 are all very good

Honestly dont know. I think because I stumbled onto Rush in 1981 by accident, then had to work my way backwards, it didnt really work well for me, and maybe I need to just start again and give it a chance

There is so much other  music out there though, the motivation to do it is low

I did it! Went out!

It was lovely, heart was fine, head was fine, weather was beautiful. 51 miles at 18.4mph so not too bad for the first time in forever

First 16 miles straight into quite a stiff easterly breeze, so really feeling it after about 20 miles, but battled on.

Bike seemed in decent order too, nothing rattling or clunking
