Nice site here, which will calculate sunrise / sunset times to the second for your precise location (as pinned on the map). It gives the times for a whole year.

It seems that next year's sunset times are slightly earlier than this year's.
For example sunset occurred at 15:51:20 today at my location. A year from now the sun is due to go down at 15:51:04.
Today is the absolute nadir of sunset times: at my location, the sun goes down today at 15:50:12.
Tomorrow, a second later. Friday, another five seconds of daylight in the afternoon.
This time next week, the sun sets more than a minute later than today (at 15:51:36).
Think we get to 15.47 as the earliest ..which we are already at
Wanted to see how much difference the distance east / west makes and it turns out that if I drop the pin on the map exactly 10km to the east, today's sunset time is 15:49:36 for that location.
So 1km to the east, the sunset time is 3.6 seconds earlier at this latitude. By the same token, to make the sun set a second later or earlier, you have to travel 277 metres west or east respectively.
Doesn't make much of a practical difference I know, I just thought it was interesting. But all the same it's worth knowing that on a long bike ride in the summer I could have a few more minutes of daylight in the west, and a few fewer in the east.
That's right, I could be calling my mum in Yorkshire and she'd be saying that it had gone dark, while still light 40km to the West of Dublin. You also see that when watching live sport or live news reports in UK. The reverse is true in the morning of course.

So today is the last 15.47 sunset time in Ayr.. tomorrow is 15.48 and by New Year's Eve we're sitting at 15.57.. it's piss poor wet weather but still a nice feeling...
At the moment the sunset time is receding by about 14 secs a day.

Sunset times in NW Leics until the end of 2024.
The shortest day👍. Well could be tomorrow depending on where you are
That ancient wonder (built over 5200 years ago) about 20kms from me comes into its own today. The interior chamber lights up today from the light of the Winter Solstice sunrise. Incredible feat of engineering considering how nasty, brutish and short lives were back then.

Broke the 16.00 hrs barrier in Ayr today..16.01 sunset to be exact.. good days ahead..
Here in NW Leics the sun will set 16 mins and 20 seconds later than it did on 13th Dec (the earliest point). At the moment the sunset time is receding by roughly 1 minute, 20 seconds each day. By the end of April it recedes by 1 minute, 44 seconds per day (then starts to slow down again).
Now broken the 16.15 barrier.. think it was yesterday actually .. today it's a 16:18 sunset👍
16:15 here yesterday, couple of weeks and it's 16:40 :)
Definitely noticing the lengthening daylight on the commute now.
Btw, Venus looked spectacular this morning.
Here in NW Leics, sunset will occur 31 minutes (and 8 seconds) later than it did on 13th December, at 16:21:20.
We break the 16.30 barrier in Ayr today.. 16.31 sunset.. pity the weather is so bad tho..
Nine seconds short of the psychologically important 16:30 barrier here in this particular location in NW Leics. Just checked Penzance (Western Cornwall) out of curiosity; the sun sets at 16:57 there this afternoon.
Ah ... today is the day we hit 16.47 sunset.. a full hour later than the earliest back in December..
Interesting! Here we've only got 54 mins of the afternoon daylight back compared to Dec 13th.
Looking at the figures we're getting it back at about 1 min, 50 secs per day at the moment.
Sunset here in NW Leics will occur 1 hr later than it did on Dec 13th on 1st Feb (actually 59 mins, 52 secs but hey).
Only 5 months until the nights start drawing in again...
Broke 17:00 sunset yesterday.. 17:02 today actually...
This graph shows the amount by which the sunset time changes, by date this year. We're at the top of the curve now (sunset 1 min, 56 seconds later than yesterday). But for example by 15th June, the sun will set only 31 seconds later than the previous day.

Nice graph.. also sunrise times are much earlier now..07.58 now.. think in mid dec it was about 8.47...

And 17:15 yesterday with today being 17:17
Still signs of sunlight approaching 6pm now. That's quite the stretch
Commuted both ways in daylight today. Definitely lifted the mood.

17.30 today sunset..it's all going in the right direction
Here the sun will set at 17:30 on Thursday night. 18:30 on March 26th.
Really lovely sunrise this morning - at about 7.10am I was making my way to the train station on the bus; as it descended into Shibden valley the sun was sitting on the horizon, a soft pinky-orange in colour and overlooking the mist at the bottom of the valley.
On the south horizon about 12 miles away as the crow flies, Emley Moor's transmitter (the tallest free-standing structure in the U.K.) looked like a dark apparition set amongst the morning haze.
It all had the quality of an oil painting. :)
Sunset today 17:46 tomorrow it's 48 so over the next couple of nights we get 2 hrs more daylight than in december... earliest sunset @ 15.47
Walking the dogs at 6.30 am no longer feels like a nocturnal activity.
Two hours back as of today.
Dec 13th 2023 sunset - 15:50:12
Mar 4th 2024 sunset - 17:50:46
We hit 18:01 tonight
The next time sunset is before 6.00pm is in late October. :)
I'm in Pembrokeshire this weekend. The sun will set here at 1840 this evening, 13 mins later than at home in Leicestershire.
18:42 in Ayr tonight and of course this time next week clocks will be forward an hour.. rejoice...
Sun will be setting after 8pm from next week here in Navan when the clocks spring forward. 18:48 tonight
I feel more and more that this is the phase of the year I should be soaking up and making the most of. Not wasting time waiting for that heatwave and cider in the garden. I always have a weird inner feeling this time of year just before spring. Not an entirely happy sensation and difficult to describe. A kind of uneasiness which I remember used to affect my late mum too. Must be a primitive response of some kind. Must do some research.

Love Pembrokeshire
Tonight 18:53 tomorrow night 19:55😀
There is a solar eclipse happening next Monday (8th April). Will spend the day travelling through Mexico, the US and the Atlantic. It will arrive in Ireland in the evening just as the sun sets (only a partial eclipse by the time it gets here) Western parts of Britain will be able to catch it for a couple of minutes just as the sun sets (providing its not covered by cloud of course)
