Title: Roger Whittaker has died
Post by: Thenop on September 18, 2023, 09:05:20 PM
Can't say I'm a big fan, it's more my mums cup of tea but when watching this clip it dawned on me he was 39 when this was filmed.
Times have changed, now that makes me feel old.

I hope he got to sail one last time.

Yeah, not a fan here either but I recall him being on TV quite a lot back in the day. 87 though, a decent run at least - RIP.

I thought he'd been dead a few years now and that he'd be over 87 if he weren't.

I expect my parents went to see him, but I can't ask them now.

RIP Rog.

I must admit I didn't know he was still alive. He was often on the telly when I was a kid. A few weeks ago I remembered his hit record from the late '60s because I was in (old) Durham Town myself at the time. I looked him up on Wikipedia on my phone in the bar of the hotel and worked out that he'd have been 36 when it was in the charts. I thought he was more or less an old man.

Always had a soft spot for that song as a County Durham boy myself. Although (I've just read) Roger was from Nairobi himself.
