All done with Westworld. This was the second best after the first series, though it went all a bit too weird at the end. No more thankfully.

Westworld - another example of Christopher Nolan having a good concept, but not having the chops to fully realise its potential (see also: Inception, Interstellar, Tenet).

Yes Reg, I stand corrected, I had in my head they were both involved.

Still, something clearly runs in the family..!!

For the record, Memento, in which both were involved, is conceptually and narratively pretty much flawless and still the best thing either of them have done (haven't seen Oppenheimer yet).

(Review for the Blu-ray's "Unrated" version)

Well, this was a very welcome surprise: I expected a solidly entertaining Friday night killer doll slasher flick; but it's actually so much more than that.

This is more concerned with exploring themes of parental responsibility and child safeguarding and development in the advent of AI.  And it does this extremely well; the script is brilliantly written, serving as more of an astute, multi-layered thought experiment than a vehicle for bloody deaths.

The titular robot doll herself is a triumph technically and artistically; of course, she - sorry, "it"!! - has the genre-regulation formidable creepiness you'd expect, but the masterful  puppetry, animatronics and an extraordinary physical performance by 12-year-old champion dancer Amie Donald combine to create a pretty unforgettable character (especially in a scene in which she dances, which is gaining iconic status).

I could go on, but I'll just enthusiastically recommend this is promoted to the top of anyone's to-watch list.

I agree re Memento - it's a superb movie. I did quite like Interstellar, but not Inception or Tenet. I didn't care for Dunkirk either.

I liked the first series albeit it wasn't exactly realistic, but this new series is decidedly second-rate IMO.

Last Night - The Flash I wasn't expecting much from this DC effort and I'm not a fan of Ezra Miller either, but the start actually showed some promise and there were some great and funny action scenes. Ezra Miller was actually OK and played the role perfectly. But like all these movies it quickly descended into a cliched mess. Something else that's really grating with these action movies is the length of the film - why do they make them so long with all that unnecessary filler? Keep them tight and improving the script would make a world of difference. The CGI looked poor too, they must have used an Amiga. 5/10

For a wet, Sunday afternoon at home we chose to watch Renfield - a comedy/horror with Nicholas Hoult as Renfield and Nicholas Cage as Dracula. It's worth a watch to kill 90 minutes on a miserable day like today. Cage hams it up tremendously as the Count and Hoult plays the meek-mannered Renfield to good effect. The story is a side-line to the horror theatrics and it's a blood soaked blast from start to finish (and thankfully short enough to not get dull). I enjoyed it - 7/10

Tried episode 1 of Lucy Worsley's Puzzling a while back. Didn't make it through the 1st episode. Cheapest looking TV we've seen in a long while!

Speaking of cheap TV, we ARE working our way through Popmaster  8) .
