Other Music / Taylor Hawkins RIP
March 26, 2022, 08:09:10 AM
Shocking news this morning. Taylor dies aged 50. Speculation it was another heart-related death (according to local media reports).  Obviously he was a massive Rush fan. His loss will be felt acutely within our community.
RIP  :'(

Quote from: Slim on March 25, 2022, 06:53:04 PMWell there's no mathematical proof, but there is at the very least a strong case for the proposition that Manchester United is the biggest football club of all.
I thought that was Barcelona?
I think you'll find Real Madrid are bigger than Barcelona. Depends on what metrics you use, obviously, but Man Utd are the biggest English club without a doubt and if not the biggest in the world, definitely top 3 in the world by most usual measures or combination thereof

Quote from: Nick on March 25, 2022, 05:25:32 PMDespite all the social media images of destroyed Russian tanks you have to remember they have 12500 of them! Makes the mind boggle.
Well, that's what they told us they had  ;D  ;)

Quote from: Slim on March 24, 2022, 11:01:50 PMSo: the Welsh are still in with a chance of qualifying for the World Cup, having beaten the Austrians 2-1 at Cardiff.

Italy have failed to qualify for a World Cup again, as well.

From champions of Europe to being knocked out by North Macedonia. A country that sounds like its on the Northern Line. That's some fall
They've been putting all their efforts into winning a game of rugger  ;D

"Fortifying, strengthening the spines quills of the Ukrainian porcupine to make it indigestible to Russia"
He just can't help himself  ::)

Another great quote today:

"the strategic, operational and tactical incompetence of the Russian military has been stunning"

General John R  Allen, NATO ISAF, 2011-2013 - ironically...... an American

Quote from: Slim on March 24, 2022, 10:13:39 PMBut there might well be "special advisers" working with the Ukrainians already on the ground, in Ukraine. It's greatly to the West's advantage to take out as much Russian hardware as possible, both militarily and politically.
I would think there have been western "special advisers" working with the Ukrainians since 2014..and possibly before that
(Hunter Biden was one that springs to mind  ;D )

Bought a nice-looking s/h copy of Robin Trower's Long Misty Days this morning. Just playing it through now, looks like a steal for £4.50!

"what's the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth?
About 6 months"  ;D  ;D

Couldn't stand the bloke years ago but I've warmed to him.
You're beginning to get under the MSM's skin, Russell. Must be doing something right, keep up the good work

Quote from: Hugh on March 22, 2022, 11:20:36 PMI'll probably regret never seeing them at least once, but I still don't have that great inclination to make the effort yet. Maybe for their 70th anniversary or later when Keef is one of the few survivors of a thermonuclear war.
He looks like he already is one!

Rush / Re: Rush's Greatest Song
March 22, 2022, 10:51:53 PM
That was great. I will listen to Xanadu with a greater appreciation than before, I'm sure.  The structure never really floated my boat though, very similar to The Camera Eye in that respect - long intro, verse twice and finish on a solo.
On longer songs I think I prefer the structure of Jacob's Ladder or Natural Science where the parts are distinct musical themes and not simply a repetition of what has gone before.  Both Xanadu and The Camera Eye are huge crowd pleasers live though, has to be said.

Quote from: Jonners on March 21, 2022, 08:42:52 AMI did it! Went out!

It was lovely, heart was fine, head was fine, weather was beautiful. 51 miles at 18.4mph so not too bad for the first time in forever

First 16 miles straight into quite a stiff easterly breeze, so really feeling it after about 20 miles, but battled on.

Bike seemed in decent order too, nothing rattling or clunking
Decent pace over that distance. I'd be blowing out my arse - well done!
