Other Music / Re: Motorpsycho

Did I forget last week..? Well, no. And yes.
Last Monday there was no single release, it was preponed to the Friday before that, the Friday before record store day because a UK only CD compilation was released on RSD with (of course!) one new song.
Psycholab is a nice enough tune, give it a listen if you want to, the single version is the edited version. I have yet to hear the full version.

So this week then? Yes, of course.
https://motorpsycho.bandcamp.com/album/the-nerve-tattoo
1995 - The Nerve Tattoo a single release preluding the Blissard album. It is a really poppy tune, again an edit, but nearly complete. Uptempo with  a lovely chorus.
the 4 other tunes on here:
Of Beacons and Beams sounds like a carnival ride and is just an interlude at 1:14
The banjo driven The Wheel is a near 8 minute exercise in patience. Nothing really happens but it has a strange hold over me.
Pale Day is a subdued little tune
And Mad Sun has many incarnations in the MP discography, this is the "short version" of this alternative tune

The second release today is
2000 - Walkin With J
https://motorpsycho.bandcamp.com/album/walkin-with-j-ep
This one is a bit special, not just because it is a fantastic track from a fantastic album (Let Them Eat Cake) But also because drummer Hakon Gebhardt ("Geb") wrote the lead off track, he also has a hand in all the other tracks. Geb would leave the band a year or 2 later.
Walkin With J a track laden with brass and keys while still being  a very rock effort makes for pleasant listening. I really like this track.
Junkfood Mailbomb tries hard to be melodic but the overabudance of drums and overall sound make for a listen that goes down more difficult than the title track. I do really like it though.
Captain Geebheart (take a guess who it is about..) sounds like a Primus outtake recorded in the '70s (sung by Geb himself), good fun!
KR3 (Parts 1+2) imitates a casio keyboard with a vocal line, a vocoder at the end. Again good fun, but not for repeated listening
Abendspaziergang (loosely translates as Evening Walk) again sounds like a carnival ditty

General Discussion / Re: The Latest BBC Controversy
Last post by Matt2112 - Today at 01:46:31 AM
BBC News reports that Madonna has performed a gig in Rio de Janeiro, apparently attended by over 1 million people, describing her as "The Queen of Pop".

Nah. That's Lady Gaga nowadays isn't it?

Besides, the gig was free, which the ever-vigilantly accurate BBC somehow forgot to mention. ::)

Started nice and sunny, reminded us of summer. Normal service resumed at 5:30pm. More rain.

Bugger. Looks like we've dropped lucky as we've had zero rain for a few days now - just in time for our annual village Scarecrow Weekend!  Which has been exceptionally good this year, I have to say. :)

Thought I'd royally buggered up my bike today. Thought the bearing in the headset had gone. The roads round here are not in very good shape and I hit a bit today that was like a ploughed field which had set like concrete. Thought my teeth would fall out, but then a rattling started up that sounded like all the ball bearings in the headset had come loose and were jumping around in the steerer tube and front forks.

Logic eventually kicked in as the bike could still be steered, what it was was a CO2 canister and multi-tool in my frame bag were hitting against each other. A bit of a relief, but I wouldn't be surprised if something like that could happen.

I got 32 miles in anyway in the late afternoon sunshine.

Quote from: Nickslikk2112 on May 04, 2024, 09:43:10 PMBooked for Tommy Banks' gaff Roots in York a few months ago. Got an email from them last night saying "Book a meal on Wednesday or Thursday in May or June and get a free wine flight of our in house canned wines!". Bugger I thought, but then noticed it said "If you have already booked, send an email if you're interested"

Interested? It's a freebie! It may be 1846 since my last Yorkshire born ancestor left for Derbyshire, but it has left me with shorter than average arms and longer than average pockets! And I'm sure a Michelin starred restaurant wouldn't serve up tinny tasting wine in tins, so off an email went.

Got an email back today saying of course we can make use of the offer and my booking is amended :) Only trouble is, now I'm saving money I'll splash out on the optional cheese course...
There is no such thing as an optional cheese course
There is at Michelin Star prices!

That said, I do regularly shell out. Sometimes it's a rip-off, other times  you get goodly quantities of unusual cheeses.

Watched a fantastic game on TV tonight. Full stadium, as always, Sunday night, lovely weather and a 5-0 won.
Crowd were in their best of moods, singing and cheering on. Even though we have 2 matched to go it felt like a goodbye to our coach who was visibly moved by it all.

Football can be so beautiful like this. Or, as one of our sports commentators from days past always said: "football is the most important side issue in life".

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver  Part One wasn't that long ago but the impact it had on me must have been miniscule as I had little recall as to what had actually happened. Luckily these movies as so shallow the story makes little difference. This part 2 is like a Magnificent Seven in space where the heroes band together to protect the poor farmers. The gist of it is: the galactic empire places massive importance on some grain from a sad little village on a distant planet. So much so they decide to launch a large scale attack on the villagers. And erm that's about it. The first half is dull as we build up to the battle. The actual fighting scenes are quite spectacular but nothing we haven't seen before. 4/10 I've forgotten it already - what was I talking about again?
