Here in NW Leics, sunset will occur 31 minutes (and 8 seconds) later than it did on 13th December, at 16:21:20.

Nine seconds short of the psychologically important 16:30 barrier here in this particular location in NW Leics. Just checked Penzance (Western Cornwall) out of curiosity; the sun sets at 16:57 there this afternoon.

Ah  ... today is the day we hit 16.47 sunset.. a full hour later than the earliest back in December..

Interesting! Here we've only got 54 mins of the afternoon daylight back compared to Dec 13th.

Looking at the figures we're getting it back at about 1 min, 50 secs per day at the moment.

Sunset here in NW Leics will occur 1 hr later than it did on Dec 13th on 1st Feb (actually 59 mins, 52 secs but hey).

This graph shows the amount by which the sunset time changes, by date this year. We're at the top of the curve now (sunset 1 min, 56 seconds later than yesterday).  But for example by 15th June, the sun will set only 31 seconds later than the previous day.

Still signs of sunlight approaching 6pm now. That's quite the stretch

Commuted both ways in daylight today.  Definitely lifted the mood.

Really lovely sunrise this morning - at about 7.10am I was making my way to the train station on the bus; as it descended into Shibden valley the sun was sitting on the horizon, a soft pinky-orange in colour and overlooking the mist at the bottom of the valley.

On the south horizon about 12 miles away as the crow flies, Emley Moor's transmitter (the tallest free-standing structure in the U.K.) looked like a dark apparition set amongst the morning haze.

It all had the quality of an oil painting. :)
