A triumph in the technical Oscars, scoring 6, including one I hoped it might get - Cinematography. It was beautiful to behold.

Anyhow, for anyone interested . . .

  • Best Visual Effects
  • Best Original Score
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Film Editing

Rush / Hold Your Fire - album discussion
March 26, 2022, 07:50:22 PM
Having recently read Geddy Lee's unkind words about Tai Shan, I treated myself to a trip through Hold Your Fire.

Truly magnificent, and yes, Tai Shan does stand out for the wrong reasons.

But the immersive sound, the incredible drumming, possibly Neil's best lyrical work all combine to create what could have been their best album. Tai Shan let's the album down big time. Such a jar following the driving force-of-nature that is Turn The Page.

But maybe that was the idea, to give the listener a break?

Anyhow - HYF is still up there in my top Rush listens.

Moving Pictures / The Batman (2022)
March 07, 2022, 05:44:13 PM
Hmmm..... not a lot to say really. Apart from really enjoying Robert Pattinson in the titular role, I don't really see why we needed yet another (sort of) reboot, but I went along for the ride.

I say sort of, because this isn't a Batman origin story - he has been fighting crime in Gotham for about 2 years at the start of this.

I found the 174 minute run-time way too long, and although the story is interesting (no spoilers here) it didn't grip me in the same way that say Dune or No Time To Die did.

I think trimming down to 150 minutes would have given a more manageable (for the audience) and more punchy
experience. I actually think the run-time might put some people off actually.

Robert Pattinson was very, very good though, and I noticed with interest a small but not insignificant role for Rupert Penry-Jones (as the Mayor of Gotham).

General Discussion / 3D Printing
February 22, 2022, 02:02:59 PM
As a test, I thought I would duplicate a post I just did on T-N-M-S. Who knows, we may have some 3d printer bods on here, so here goes (slightly tweaked) . . .

I've had a 3d printer for over a year now, and have printed a few designs from Thingiverse (and designed and printed a couple of my own custom items using OpenSCAD & Cura) but wanted to share something for coffee nerds that James Hoffmann introduced me to.

This is a 9 pronged WDT espresso distribution tool which I'm quite thrilled about.

Here is the original design on Thingiverse:

And here is James Hoffmann's clip on 3d printing coffee stuff :D
