Question:
Would you rather take part in:
Option 1: a knockout competition
votes: 2
Option 2: a cumulative points competition
votes: 3
Option 3: I'd rather we didn't have another competition for a while
votes: 0
I thought we might have another Wordle competition to mark the last UK bank holiday of the year. In the past we've run two types of competition - one which runs over a fixed period (say ten days) and is points-based, and one which is a knockout contest with players being eliminated if they fail to get the solution in four goes.
Please vote only if you would normally take part in one of the competitions, or intend to take part in the next one.
Thanks!
Thanks to those who voted.
So starting tomorrow we'll commence another competition with the usual cumulative points rules:
- Contestants are asked not to visit the Wordle thread (or other Wordle discussions) until their own attempt for the day has been completed.
- If you miss a day no problem, just use https://infinite-sword.github.io/ReWordle/ or similar when you can and submit retrospectively.
- The Reg Wordle Scoring SystemTM will be used: 0 points if you fail, 1 if you get it in 6, 2 if you get it in 5 - and so on.
I suggest 10 days, but welcome opinions on that.
@dom you asked to be notified; I think you should get a messageboard alert from this post.
Thanks!
Good luck everybody😀
I've assumed everyone who normally Wordles in the other thread wants to take part but let me know if not, and I'll discreetly amend the spreadsheet I've just started. Thanks!
Here's the situation after the first two rounds. Note that the numbers in the blue column are the number of goes; the formula in the rightmost column (current score) does the maths. Just makes life a bit easier. The formula is: number of rounds done x 7 - sum of goes taken.

A live view of the spreadsheet can be seen here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O-wKjuVjOXDfpq9yJ9N-iZ9nrgg7bw4m9E6dC-ju3cY/edit?usp=sharing).

I suppose I should get the spreadsheet to sort itself into a sort of league table.
naah leave it like it is ;)

Slim and myself a hole in one, Picnic not getting the word at all and by the end of tomorrow we live in a changed landscape.

Think the winner is coming from slim nop or picnic
Good luck everyone...👍
Well I was going to wait for Dom's result to come in on the vidiprinter, but with all due humility I don't think it's likely to cause an upset. So:

It's far from a done deal.
And there we have it! Thanks to everyone who took part, very happy with my bronze medal. Big congratulations to Thenop for a very consistent performance with a minor hiccup on the second round. Great credit to Picnic for a similarly consistent performance, tripped up just before the finish tape.

Well done noppers... interesting that if it had been the other competition slim and picnic would have tied today...
Fair play thenop. Very impressive!
Woohoo.
Thank you to my worthy adversaries in this. Happy to make it all the way and win it.
Of course the trademarked scoring system allowed me to win, thank you Reg.
Just a quick note on yesterday's word and how I got there. Like said, I was outside walking the dogs, phone in my right hand, dogs' leishes in the other when I opened Wordle. I wanted to use punch as opener but mistyped and it ended up reading pinch. Happy to see the H in the correct position and the N showing up yellow I looked up, the meadows looked nice, a fresh morning breeze and an already warm sun brought me back to a festival I visited some 13 years ago. I saw Baroness and purchased their 2nd full album (Blue) there. I liked it a lot, still do.
Back to my phone then, what 5 letter word ending with H, containing an N could I possibly put in? The solution came to me there and then, I filled it out and it was a done deal. Happy with my second line winner I smiled and then it struck me: the Baroness album I bought many years ago, and still liked so much had given me the solution.... Track 11 on this album
So thank you Baroness!
