Slightly OT, but some films other than Citizen Kane I only got round to seeing in the 2020s:

Apocalypse Now
Raging Bull
The Goonies
The Lost Boys
The Princess Bride

Please, please watch Citizen Kane; I got round to it only last year and it really is a masterpiece that's way ahead of its time in almost every respect.

Orson Welles had pretty much carte blance to make the film he wanted and that creative freedom shines through.

I'll follow up with my list - I've a feeling it could be fairly long. :-\

HYF provided the soundtrack to a heady time during my years in secondary school so I have many precious and (hopefully) indelible memories wrapped up in it.

What helped with that immeasurably, of course, is that it's 50 minutes of mostly outstanding melodic rock tracks, chock-full of lush synths (I was originally disappointed that the keys had actually been scaled back compared to the masterpiece that is PoW), with pristinely polished production by Peter Collins (why, why why wasn't he brought in for GUP and Presto?!) and the boys arguably at the peak of their technical powers.

Where I think HYF fared better than PoW is that somehow the transition of its songs to a live setting worked rather more successfully; ASOH is a testament to that, I think.

Tai Shan is clearly the weakest track on HYF, and I'd agree has an incongruity about it not just in the context of the album but also in terms of it being a Rush song at all - but I honestly don't mind it and I find it perfectly palatable.  As I do High Water - I like its cinematic feel and for me it rounds off the album quite neatly.

I'd give HYF KKKKK, just like Kerrang! did back in the day. :)

Well deserved.

I note Denis Villeneuve has been nominated for some major awards without winning any -that must change at some point, as in my opinion he's established himself as one of the 21 century's most formidably gifted directors.

Had a bit of a phlegmy throat and runny nose recently but have felt generally okay; LFT negative.

In the meantime, hopefully I qualify on my usual technicality for the 4th jab "VIP pre-sale". ;)

Spot on tribute/obituary in The Guardian.

One thing I've always noticed about that publication is that if there's one thing it's very good at, it's that.

TWD used to be an essential weekly fixture for me, but I never forgave the awful slump it hit after the first few seasons and so haven't bothered with anything to do with the franchise since.

I remember thinking it just wasn't terribly good. Same for Alien Resurrection.

Quote from: Slim on March 17, 2022, 03:53:02 PMBut Manchester United is the biggest football club in the world.

By what metric? Genuinely curious as most citations I've seen have that as a two-horse race between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

History and importance.
That deserves a LOL

You can't beat a bit of footy bants. :)
