Quote from: dom on April 06, 2022, 04:50:49 PMReally love their 1st album. Really disappointed when it was removed from Spotify a while back.  Crime of the Century is a classic, and they were pretty strong throughout the 70s.

Their live album recorded in Paris in 79 is excellent.

If I have time tomorrow I will do a poll...best album from 1977, bet its bloody Animals.

is it still really really awful? did it remove the wax from your ears and are your ears bleeding.

Just wondering what are your thoughts on Chemtrails?

No/yes

Jonners

ESL is a good record/bad sound

VT is shit, even when remixed. In fact, even more so, because now there are no excuses

Envy of None.. mmmm not sure.  I don't think I like it... hats off to Lifeson for taking this direction.. if u thought Victor was a-bit left field then get a load of this...
40 odd minutes of dreamy ethereal singing except the last acoustic track I don't think is my bag...

Edit.. couple of songs are getting better after another listen. Dog's Life and Look Inside

Hmm, like a watered down, mellower version of Genesis. It's OK, but drags on a bit - it's mainly guitars too and starts to get dull.

Cardiacs are brilliantly bonkers - I love them, like a punk/prog cross (Pronk?). CD1 is more frantic with lots of energy; CD2 is more accessible and a mite calmer. My favourite track is on CD2 - 'Nurses Whispering Verses'. All their studio albums are great though.

The KC Project album is like a soft jazzy album. You can hear the KC sounds but it's a different beast than say Red. An easy album to listen to, it's very accessible but with enough going on to make it interesting too.

I've heard of this record, but never actually heard it. Just listened to a bit on YouTube, more than anything to me it sounds a bit rough like a home demo.

Just read a bit about it on Wikipedia; Rutherford and Phillips spent £3000 on multi-track tape recorders and a mixing desk for the album, but the tape decks went wrong and recorded unwanted clicks over the recordings before they were fixed.

DIY recording is a lot easier now.

I bought that album back in the day.  The only song I remember is God If I Saw her now, sung by Phil Collins and some woman.  Nice enough song, nothing special.  Can't remember anything else about it but I'll give it a listen and see what memories it brings.

Just did a little reading there and saw that "some woman" was Vivienne McAuliffe.  She died in 1998 at the age of 50.  Thought she deserved a little more respect than I gave her initially!
