U2 - Songs Of Surrender

Stripped-down, re-worked, live lounge-esque versions of radio staples and deep cuts.

I bought the 16-track CD not realising it is an entry-level release and there's a 40-track version plus a plethora of deluxe packages etc.

Anyway, it's had a few spins now and unfortunately I'm getting very little from it - it all seems pointless and superfluous, merely serving as a reminder that the original versions cannot be improved upon.

I hope the promised next release of original material has a lot more fire and creativity to it; this album is bland almost to the point of being soporific.

Always seemed a complete waste of time to me and merely served to reinforce the fact that Bonio is completely 'up himself'

In fairness (with my U2 fanboi hat on here) the main instigator of this project seems to The Edge (or 'Dave', if you prefer :) ).

Got to say Bono's (or 'Paul's' if you prefer) vocal performance is actually very good - he's looked after himself in that regard.

It's just a very "meh" record overall though.

I pretty much stopped listening to U2 after October. That and Boy are tremendous albums. War never struck with me and I gave up after that.

Today I'm mostly playing:

Gungfly - On Her Journey to the Sun
Gungfly - Alone Together
vinyl:
Beardfish - The Void
"Oh, for the wings of any bird other than a Battery hen."

Red Lenses

Genesis - Invisible Touch, easily 20 years since I played the whole CD.

Cutting Crew - Broadcast, one of my favorite 80s CDs (1 of the 1st CDs I ever bought).

vinyl:
Marillion - F.E.A.R.
"Oh, for the wings of any bird other than a Battery hen."

The Picnic Wasp

T.Rex - The Slider

Rush - Live In YYZ (1981)

Various versions of Be Still, My Soul on Spotify. If a prog band wrote a hymn.......

Steven Wilson - Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall

Rush - Signals (mainly The Weapon on repeat)

Thenop

Mountain - Climbing.. newly reissued on vinyl. Nice.

Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans
Beardfish - Sleeping in Traffic Part 1
Beardfish - Sleeping in Traffic Part 2
"Oh, for the wings of any bird other than a Battery hen."
