Title: Steven Wilson - Harmony Codex
Post by: pxr5 on August 29, 2023, 12:48:15 PM
Just a month to wait and now on pre-order. I'm so glad there hasn't been that drip feed of tracks beforehand - there have been some invite-only listening events though, which have provided positive feedback (but they would wouldn't they).

And just as I've pre-ordered the orange vinyl version he goes and drops a song on Youtube - twat. I'm not posting it here as I won't be listening.

Not saying anything about the music except that I really enjoyed this, I am going to say the choreography and videography in this clip is fantastic.
Will be pre ordering this when it is up at my local favourite store.

When did Mike Oldfield join the band? This is more like it.

I still haven't played any of the tracks but this morning I got my Burning Shed notice of shipment for the orange vinyl. Maybe here tomorrow.  :)

Good for you. Mine's probably not shipped until Thursday to be received on Friday.
On the other hand, I have heard all the released track - only once though, want to keep it fresh.

I've managed to avoid it as well, despite having the opportunity to listen to a review link a while back! CD is on pre order for a record store signing in Oxford on Monday and I hope to have the Blu-ray tomorrow...we shall see!

That's the best of what I've heard so far.  Had a La Villa Strangiato feel to it, with a Pink Floyd King Crimson twist.  Classic prog

I've played it 3 times now. First impressions are good. The first 3 tracks are the weakest for me and it get's better from Impossible Tightrope onwards. It sounds excellent, as you'd expect from a Steven Wilson album, but as much as I like bass it sounds a little boomy at times (probably synthetic rather than a bass guitar). For now it is better than TFB, but not up to Raven or Grace standards - yet.

Miles better than his last dog of a record, but the title track goes on for too long and the spoken word bits (by his wife?) are a bit pretentious..

It's Steven Wilson, I'd be shocked if it wasn't a tad pretentious.
I need to digest, upon first listen I'm not that impressed. There's a few standouts, the Tightrope song I like, but overall? Maybe it needs to grow.

Staircase is the best track for me.

Listened to it again.
His influences are very clear - Thom Yorke, Trent Reznor, Massive Attack.

Still, apart from the title track and the voiceovers (I keep expecting Derek Smalls to pipe in about Stonehenge) it's pretty good.

Where's the tour at?

Wonder if the situation in Gaza/Israel has completely derailed whatever plans might have been in place post release?  Big build up...release...then radio silence.

Yes me too. I thought C/C was a bit stale.

What a sensible comment he makes here on the current situation
