This looks like a political post, but actually the identity of the person shown here is unimportant, because it's fake. This came up in my Instagram feed:



Clicking on the link takes you to a webpage that looks exactly like a BBC News site page, complete with BBC logo and a headline "ITV management refuses to comment on the scandal surrounding its show This Morning" . The piece is attributed to Jane Wakefield, who is or was a genuine BBC reporter.

The article beneath purports to report an appearance by Sir Keir on This Morning, in which he tells Alison Hammond that he was struggling to make ends meet a year ago, but now after making a £250 deposit with a platform called Immediate Edge, he's earning a million quid every few months.



I've seen dodgy adverts on Facebook a few times as well. Fake Gucci handbags or Rolex watches and similar, but this is next level. Can't understand why Meta don't screen their advertisers a bit more carefully.

Seen one very similar with Alistair Campbell, pushing something very similar, supposedly on The Late Late Show on RTE.  That was on Twitter (X)

The various social media, certainly including Facebook and Instagram, were chock full of virulently government-critical content during the pandemic. They did quite legitimately censor public health disinformation, which is what I think you may be referring to - and that's only to their credit.

So: what he actually says is that he was asked to censor content that "in retrospect, ended up being more debatable or true", not that he was asked to censor information that the government knew to be true. And even that's only Zuckerberg's opinion; he's not a physician or an epidemiologist.

What's going on with the media and society? I used to think society was just collapsing but it's far more sinister and confusing than just that. It seems to have tilted on its axis to the point where I feel that the world is watching news like this, totally getting it and nodding their heads, but I alone have been injected with some substance and just sit there asking why. Why is this a story? What are they getting at? Is the world just there to accommodate click bait? Is it just me getting older and this is always how the elderly perceive the world of their own time? Answers on a postcard. Those were happy times.

I think the photo was probably taken with a smartphone that has one of those modes that takes a few pics in quick succession then lets you stitch together an image to get the best smiles on all of the participants.
