Contacted a guitar store today using their online chat service. I had a couple of small questions about items I intend to buy in the near future. As usual the response was just guesses. I'd be better asking my dog.

Been trying to get a much needed haircut the past few days. Every time I try all the local places are full to bursting with teenage guys waiting for their fortnightly booster. When do they ever go to work, school or college? I'm glad I grew up in the seventies. Got so crabbit on the way back I decided I wasn't going to donate to Geddy's massive pension fund. I'll probably change my mind when I calm down.

Have you considered autotonsorialism? As long as you don't mind short hair, a set of clippers is all you need. The rechargeable ones are very handy.

Great word! I bought rechargeable clippers at the end of lockdown when my hair had reached my shoulders. It could even have been after lockdown as my fear of visiting shops etc continued for some time. I didn't tackle the issue for ages as I was terrified of what I might do to myself. In the end, embarrassment and desperation led to me deciding to shear my head. It went surprisingly well and I was quite pleased with my handiwork, not that many folk got to see the result in any case. I cut my hair a couple of times after that although it always results in it being shorter than I am comfortable with, and I also think my type of hair doesn't grow so evenly again when clipped rather than cut. But who knows, maybe I'll just go for it again.

This is a nightmare and I don't know how it's going to end up. I booked my COVID vaccination online earlier today. There was a tick box at the end of the process (ICS link) to add the appointment to my digital calendar. I don't usually bother with these sort of things but stupidly clicked on it. I immediately received a Microsoft email warning me of unusual activity on my account. I followed the prompts not realising until too late that a code was being sent to an ancient BT email address. When I contacted BT they told me they had deleted this address some time ago and forwarded me the Microsoft support form. It appears to be a daunting process which lies ahead and I don't think they make a decision for 30 days with no guarantees of any outcome. I'm pretty sick with worry as I can't bear to think of the implications of all this as my email address is so important to me. Gutted!

Anyone else struggling to give a toss about the sycamore tree that someone removed with a chainsaw? I did a walk along Hadrian's Wall as a kid so I probably saw it. But it's just a tree .. they get chopped down every day.

No, sorry James, I don't agree with that. Maybe it's just my conscience as I sold a lot of hardwood in my time, but that tree did have a degree of iconic status for a lot of people. From the coverage I've seen, it seems to have been the only tree in a fairly bleak landscape. Some of the photos of it are truly wonderful, especially the aurora lit shot. I hope the timber is used for a special purpose. Sycamore is a fantastic furniture wood, so maybe something might end up in a local museum for its tale to be told ongoing. It was just senseless vandalism for what would appear to be just for the sake of it, not even a protest or a statement. Go and spray paint a wall or something inert if that's your empty bag.

It's iconic, it serves the local community and lots and lots of people like to see it;  I was there a fortnight ago and it was great seeing so many pensioners out walking towards it - it's a pleasant easy walk.

It's cutting down is so senseless, selfish and pointless and whoever is responsible will have to live with that - it will follow them around like an albatross.

I don't quite believe that a 16 year old could have done it - at least not on his own.
