I think we need an insects section.. was cutting the grass yesterday and loads of ants appeared at one edge between the grass and slabs.. they must have been checking what the noise was all about..

Quote from: The Picnic Wasp on July 28, 2023, 11:32:02 PMI've never seen those mounds you describe. Maybe it doesn't happen up here. Sounds fascinating.

Every year we get the same thing .. piles of sandy dust where they've emerged from between the patio tiles. Annoying. There must be billions of the buggers down there.

And they are all looking up thinking with their hivemind: there must be billions of these giants up there, everywhere we want to emerge they put a kettle on to try and get rid of us. But we shall prevail in the end! Let's see who has the last laugh in 46000 years!
I'm sure they're not pre-occupied with self-flagellation like we are. The human race will probably be wiped out, ultimately, from stress-related illness

Starvation is more likely.

Seeing we have a fish, a wasp and a dawg amongst the regulars, an animal section might not be a bad idea...

What happened to the dawg? I liked Rufus. Hope he's ok.

Creepy crawlies are distantly related to us and that's the way you treat them?

Tut tut. :)

Rishi Bloody Sunak ordering a review into Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Says he wants to support people to use their cars.

OI, RISHI, NO!!!

Care are polluting weapons of mass murder, the use of which is an earned privilege, not a right as so many entitled drivists believe. A good 95% of drivers need their licences revoking from the standards of driving which I see.

FWIW I live in a three car household, we're actively seeking to get rid of one and the boy can't afford to run his.

Theyve put bollards everywhere here...all that has happened is its made peoples journeys 3 times longer and roads are gridlocked everywhere...with engines running.  And we'll not mention the knock on effect to local businesses....the council here are pricks.

Talking of cyclists....can we do something about the uber eats etc cyclists...all riding without helmets, lights and with zero regard for road safety.  I can't believe I haven't read about one being killed in a traffic accident.  Fuckers only care about delivering someones burger as quickly as possible.  Ridiculous.

They want taking down with electric cattle prods :) Most of them are on illegal e-bikes as well.

I loathe bad cyclists as much as I loathe bad drivers.

Helmets are overrated. In 40,000+ miles of cycling my head's never collided with anything of greater mass than a wasp or a twig. I do wear one occasionally but more often than not a cap or dutt is more suitable.

It's a bit like seatbelts.  It's pretty unlikely that they will be required on any single journey, but if they are are you'll be very grateful for having them.

Same goes for contents and buildings insurance

I always wear a helmet. I'm too afraid of Mrs S not to. They might helped prevent concussion in a low speed fall, but anything serious and they are worthless.

I fell off the bike a couple of months ago - completely my fault - ended up with a cut above the lip and various bruises.  I'm almost certain that the helmet (the first point of impact) saved me a trip to the hospital at least!  First fall in approx 5 or 6 years and the helmet wearing was 100% worth it.

If that wasn't enough of an incentive, just like your missus, Louise would be fuming if she saw me leave or come back without wearing one.

Thenop

I hardly ever bike these days but I have never worn a helmet. Dutch are notorious for that though.
I can't get my wife to wear one and she's an on e-bike. But of she gets on the horse, she does. Mandatory. For bikes it is not.
