As part of the Taylor Hawkins tribute at Wembley Stadium on 3rd Sept, both Geddy and Alex are lined up to appear!
Looks like its to be a Foo Fighters concert with lots of special guests appearing. As well as Geddy and Alex, the likes of Brian May, Stewart Copeland and Liam Gallagher are set to be on stage.

Just had a morbid thought - every drummer I can remember Geddy performing live with is dead now. Neil, of course. Taylor Hawkins (that performance of YYZ at a Foo Fighters gig in Toronto). John Rutsey. And Alan White (at the RRHOF induction for Yes).
Sounds like Geddy is living the Spinal Tap plotline!
Liam Gallagher? FFS!
Quote from: David L on June 15, 2022, 11:00:23 AMLiam Gallagher? FFS!
Looks like they asked the wrong brother by mistake and it's too late to rectify. ::)
On the plus side, he will make the other acts look an awful lot better!
Taylor loved Liam and it was mutual, so his inclusion is justified.

Fair play.

:o
Perhaps Liam's guilty pleasure is 2112 ;D
Got a standing this morning. Well happy.
They are also playing in LA on the 27th with a similar format.
No plans to go myself, must admit I don't really like the idea of Alex and Geddy playing in the UK without Yours Truly in attendance at some point.
I assume it will be filmed and perhaps broadcast? Maybe a Sky arts job?
Going to have to see if I can go. I don't even like the Foo Fighters. In fact to me the Foo Fighters are the weirdest phenomenon in all of music, like if Ringo played guitar in a band that became bigger than The Beatles.
Wonder if they will mention the fact that Rush also lost their drummer? Also wonder how many of the crowd would know who Rush even are/were.
Seem amazing they are on both bills.
Wonder who will drum with Geddy and Alex. The thought of either Omar Hakim or Stewart Copeland playing with them is blowing my mind..

Agree, wonder if Geddy will sing or just play bass.

If it's Copeland, they might play a couple of mash-ups:
Every Breath You Take A Friend
Can't Stand Losing It

XanaDe do do do, de da da da
Beneath, Between & Behind My Camel
Roxanne Available Red Light
Spirits in the Material New World Man
I suppose we ought to be doing Rush/Foo Fighters mash ups, but I'm buggered if I can think of a Foo Fighters song - and I've got their first album...
Synchronicity 2112
John Paul Jones, Nile Rogers, Krist Novoselic and Nandi Bushell all now added.
There's a lot of bottom end on show!
Seven Synchronicities Of Gold

I agree foo fighters suck. I had a friend way back who was in to Nirvana and then Foo fighters he kept banging on how good the drumming was and "just listen drumming to the off beat" what ever that meant and he hated Rush.
Then a few years down the line we all find out Dave Grohl was a Rush fan. Although I think DG is a bit of a rent a quote and fan of everyone. Talented musician but his music sucks
I'm not saying they suck. I find some of their stuff eminently listenable. But as a general assessment, I don't actively like them.
As huge as they are, I don't know a single tune by them. At least, not that I am aware of.
There's a nifty tune called
Rope that might well appeal to other Rush fans, certainly I quite like it. it has a bit of energy and quirk.
Apart from that, I know one called
Rosemary. Can't name any others though I'm sure I'd recognise some of them if I heard them.
Staples of rock radio include:
Monkey Wrench
Times Like These
Learn To Fly
All My Life
Everlong
This Is A Call
My Hero
Breakout
Walk
Rope (as aforementioned)
Which are all great - though there's also some duffers (in my opinion):
Best Of You
The Pretender
In Your Honour
In my experience, whenever I hear a song on ROCK radio which sounds OK but has no pretensions to greatness it turns out to be the Foos.
I recognise This is a Call but nowt else.
The first 3 records and 2011's 'Wasting Light' are all essential and there's enough brilliant songs on the rest of their output to ensure that their gigs are all fantastic.
I've seen them a tonne of times (although not since 2007) and they played every gig as though it was their last. They are incredible live and DG has morphed from a rather awkward and shy frontman to one of the very best.
At heart, DG and Taylor are/were massive rock fans..and I think that's evident in their output and collaborations and by just how excited they all seemed to be whenever they were doing what it was they were doing...
Yes, the one and only time I saw them was at Manchester Arena in 2005 and I enjoyed it immensely - they put every ounce of energy into it and even teased the intro to YYZ. :)
Rehearsing with Omar Hakim! Yes!
If Geddy steps up to the mic and utters "I, I'm a one way motorway" I'm already in heaven.
Meant to say, never has the simple D chord been used to such effect.
So...
Gates open at 2.30
Show starts at 4.30
I'm guessing some of the artists will get 3 songs?
Rush with Omar - Tom Sawyer, Spirit and either YYZ or Closer to the Heart.
Supergrass
Them Crooked Vultures
Liam Gallagher
James Gang
Some I think will get less than 3:
Wolfgang Van Halen
Chrissie Hynde
Nirvana with Violet Grohl on vocals.
Brian May and Roger Taylor with Justin Hawkins doing under pressure.
Brian Johnson doing Back in Black with Grohl on drums?
Then a 2 hour foo fighters set with Josh Freese, Omar Hakim, Stewart Copeland, Travis Barker, Martin Chambers, Lars Ulrich all doing guest spots on drums.
What a send off for Taylor Hawkins...
Liam Gallagher is the puzzle for me. Was he pally with the FF?
Quote from: The Picnic Wasp on August 28, 2022, 09:17:53 PMLiam Gallagher is the puzzle for me. Was he pally with the FF?
Taylor was a big fan, I think there was a lot of mutual love there.
It's quite a big call for Alex and Geddy, not played for a long time and no Neil to carry the song, no locked in mindset with the drummer. But they are professional muso's.

Remember, Omar went in and knocked off the drums on Dire Straits 'Brother In Arms' record in a fortnight. He was the drummer Sting went to once the Police first split. Saw him twice on the 2014 Kate Bush tour. He's a brilliant player, they'll have it down, for sure.
Think he's on the new Gabriel album as well...
Please God. Make this the performance of their lives.
I think my life must have turned some kind of corner when there is a Rush gig (of sorts) in the UK this weekend and I made no real attempt to go.
Managed to grab a £63 "restricted view" ticket up in the Gods today for this so a happy bunny now - am sure I can wangle a decent view once in the stadium.
The odd ones keep coming up on Ticketmaster so keep your eyes peeled if you're still interested.
is it to be shown on tv at all?

Looks like it but not sure how it translates to uk channels.

Been monitoring Twickets and there are stacks of tickets coming up.
I'll actually be transiting through (and back through) the Smoke on the day and due back home that evening...unless I have a mad moment while monitoring Twickets... :o 🙄
Some decent priced pitch standing appeared on Twickets now too......
Enjoyed what I saw, shame it wasn't proper Rush. Geddy was big on the bass and I enjoyed the end of gig image of Geddy with his arms around PMC and JPJ, so much bass legend in close proximity.
Watched on YouTube on the train back north.
All things considered they did very well. There was some obvious ring-rustiness but they made it through.
Great to see and cherish, because as things stand they'll only do this one more time.
It reinforced the fact that NP possessed in unworldly talent. His stand-ins did a decent job but were pedestrian by comparison. I watched it on a YouTube clip of their whole set last night which was very good quality. Tried to find it today to no avail. Must have been taken down. There seemed to be a spoken vocal intrusion at the beginning and I wanted to check that out. It was strange to hear the live synthesiser version of the opening swirly part of 2112.
Also odd that "Greg" did all the keys. But hey it's Geddy and Alex "from" Rush and I really hope they do something together again.

I couldn't have gone, because I was abroad at the time. However I find that I don't really feel a sense of regret that Alex and Geddy came to the UK to play Rush tunes, and for the first time, I didn't go. I don't feel as though I've missed a Rush tour. Still got the set.

Ged's not sounding too great I have to say...
Yeah, I think if Geddy and Alex ever perform together again it would have to be along the lines of an acoustic set, featuring songs like the softer material from Feedback. Neil always said the band could only last as long as Geddy's voice held out. Wise words as always.
