Thanks to those who participated.

I asked because in NW Leics, folks pronounce "bald" roughly the same way I'd pronounce "bold". Whereas they they say "called" (or sprawled, stalled, hauled etc) much the same way I would.

Just one of those little things that remind me that although I've lived here (mostly) since 1989, I'm not one of them.

I was seeing a girl from the Colchester area in the 90s and I had several light-hearted arguments with her family about pronunciation. I think in general Glaswegians pronounce most words correctly and in many areas of Englandshire they do not. A favourite at the dinner table was salt and pepper which everyone knows is SAWLT and
PEPPUR, whereas I had to endure SOULT and PEPPA. Countless others but BOAT and BOUT spring to mind. If I really wanted to wind them up however, I would ask for toasted cheese.😂
