Quote from: Matt2112 on December 02, 2022, 01:01:42 PMOne from yesterday morning I didn't get round to posting about.

A female football referee was being interviewed on BBC Radio Four's Today programme, discussing last night's World Cup game where all the officials were women.

The last question put to her was: "Why aren't there any female referees in the Premiership?"

I don't think the BBC got the answer from this lady they were looking for or expecting - she simply said: "Because there aren't any that are good enough yet".

What makes you think they weren't expecting that response?
Because they are champions of victimhood?

Yes

Matt2112

They have form for it.

Like the infamous, righteously indignant news articles and pieces about the England women's football starting XI that had no black players - but one simple look at the entire squad at that exact time showed an over-representation of black players compared with the general population.

Hearing Chris Squire and Alan White's Run with the Fox on Radio 2 this morning.

England's win in Pakistan too  :D

Yes, a mightily impressive showing by England there. To win like that on such a flat pitch is extraordinary. I really like this 'new' England and their positive way of playing.

Yes, my ears pricked up when that was played. It's a great crimbo song, isn't it?

Absolutely  :)

Almost, almost, cheered up a bit when I heard it.

It's certainly good when it comes off, but a complete omnishambles if it doesn't.

Watching the Cyclocross from Dublin and someone has a "DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!" placard. Don't think the commentator understands its significance.

Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe :)

When I got round to watching the men's race, there was also a placard with "CAREFUL NOW" on it :)

Best dog walk of the year this afternoon, navigating along one of the steep embankments of a snow and ice-flecked Shibden valley: under a pristine, cloudless sky, with one slightly ill-advised off-trail short cut through tricky terrain (which took so long to navigate it defeated the object), but culminating in an opportunity to take some marvellous panoramic shots as the sun was setting - the dog abiding with my command to pose for one shot for just long enough before he became a blur on a "Pano" pic.

Nice way to spend a birthday. :)

Watching Piers Morgan on TalkTV addressing the latest documentary episodes from Harry and Megan. He does have a good way about him with things like this.

Slim

I had a skim through one of my old Personal Computer World magazines - the November 1990 edition - and found a brief review of the computer I had on my desk at work in 1991.

When I started working for Rolls-Royce and Associates in the summer of 1989, I didn't have a computer on my desk. I used to work with sheets of code churned out by a line printer at my desk, or I'd go into a terminal room and work at a green-screen text terminal (a VT220). But a couple of years later I'd moved to a different group, and by this time I had my own computer - a Sun SPARCstation IPC. It had 16MB of RAM - a lot more than an IBM PC would have had at that time - and a 200MB hard drive. It ran a graphical desktop system called Open Windows.

According to the review I've just read, they cost £8000 a go! Quite a big chunk of cash in 1991. My salary back then was only about twice that. But the MoD used to buy our stuff for us, and I assume they got a good price from Sun.
