No wasps in the house today, woohoo.

Saw a video last week of a wasp somehow dissecting a bee and then eating honey from its stomach.  Little bastard...

And they're coming to a town near you soon:

In our house in Cyprus just outside the back door leading down some steps was a stunning grape vine that we invariably got fruit from. Anyway one day when heading out to work I exited the back door only to be greeted by 50+ hornets launching themselves after being disturbed. I have never shit myself as much - luckily I got back inside super quick and didn't get stung despite a few resting on my shirt. I think I was saved due to the relatively cool morning, meaning the hornets were less active. I never went past that vine the same way again. Turns out they were the calmer European hornets - which didn't make me feel any better - big fuckers too.

I'm sure the entire thing is up for viewing somewhere but I watched this some years ago, interesting and well made documentary:

There must be a way to genetically engineer a hornet virus in a secret laboratory, somewhere.

Shhh, you used 'virus' and 'secret laboratory' in the same post. No telling who you will attract

There must be and the laboratory doesn't need to be secret

Off later this afternoon to stay with friends in Arran for a long weekend...

Final day of "Garden Leave" and very productive it was too: a couple of tip runs (in nigh-on Mediterranean weather), the purchase of a shredder, a much-needed clear-out of my "Man Cave", where an office desk set up for lockdown-era working was moved to a place vacated by all the little 'un's disused toys.

This meant I could clear all the clutter that had accumulated on top of my (very basic) home music studio set up, so it's now accessible and useable for the first time in ages.

Finally, on a slightly sad note, my trusty Philips soundbar that I've had for about 8 years is, after eliminating all over causes, reaching the end of its useful life and has developed a persistent crackle, as if everything it's sending out is from an old vinyl disc. So I've ordered a Samsung Q700B, a mid-range piece of kit with gushing expert reviews, on 12 months interest-free credit, cos I'm tight. :D

Digging out my Wacaco Picopresso this afternoon to make an espresso with The Lost Barn's Uganda Kisinga.

Haven't used the Pico in quite a while so I was a bit rusty but it ignored that and produced a delicious shot anyway.

Something so small just shouldn't be able to produce real espresso, but it does, and very competently!

It would appear that James Hoffmann agrees:

I 'won' a £100 amazon voucher for filling out a survey on Cambridge Water :) and I wasn't even very complementary when I filled it out.

Tumble drier has been playing up, cleaned all the filters etc but still wouldn't stay on. Checked You Tube and there is a small almost hidden compartment that was full of crud. Quick clean and working like new. Love fixing things on You Tube rather than calling a plumber or buying new. The manufacturers must hate it.

String of nice weather days coming up in about a week.
