What was Geddy referring to when he said something like "keeping the Mediterranean theme" when moving from Red Barchetta to Closer to the Heart. Red Barchetta is Italian but what has Closer got to do with that part of the World?

Quote from: Slim on April 18, 2022, 05:52:21 PMWell I certainly wasn't expecting a sudden influx of ex-TNMSers to join up today, but you're all very welcome! Thanks for coming, lovely to see some familiar names.

I took the liberty of throwing up a post on the tnms facebook page. Hope thats ok!

I've not been advised so I am cutting back on fried, fatty foods and chocolate, pastries etc. Generally trying to be sensible. Very boring!

Quote from: Slim on April 15, 2022, 12:30:28 AMNoticed more small birds around than of late - is that a Spring phenomenon?
Mating season isn't it. They're all flying around looking for a bit of nookie, plus some of the Winter migrants are still getting together to fly back to their summer homes.

Managed my first evening ride of the year this week, thought I'd try putting a bit more effort in on Wednesday, didn't work. Thought I'd take it easy on Thursday, ended up putting a bit of effort in and doing OK.

Think I paid for it though today, was a bit of an effort at times, but I suppose that's to be expected after this year so far. It was nice to get out in the glorious warm spring sunshine in bib shorts and a short-sleeved jersey. Managed to get some work done on the tanlines, which were still quite well in evidence from last year.

Got a 38 miler in, which means I'm less than a thousand miles behind last year now!

Yes all that beautiful bird song, the dawn chorus, is essentially nothing but robins and blackbirds bragging about how big their todgers are 😂

Funny enough I was streaming that last night. For thd first 5 minutes or so I thought they had titled the wrong film. Surely the most unusual Bond beginning ever!

The Hubble Telescope has resolved a star that is now 28 billion light years away, and dead. But its light has only travelled 12.9 billion years to get to us, because the Universe has expanded quite a bit since it set off (when the star was still shining brightly, and the Universe was only a fraction of its current age).

It was (or is, to us still) millions of times brighter than the Sun, and it's called Earendel.

I love this sort of thing.

That is head wrecking.  So the light that hit the telescope is now 12.9 billion years old, but due to the expansion of the universe, it is now 25.9 billion years away.  Does that mean that the universe is expanding at the speed of light or am I missing something?

Having never given it a second's thought I'm going to have to switch to a low cholesterol diet. It seems to mean kicking all nice stuff out. Anyone in a similar boat who can help a lost soul?

...err we are not arguing over brexit!

Yet...

No point in arguing. It's done and it's all been superseded by other things. It's time to find new things to argue about. Onwards to future fractiousness!!!

Wishful thinking Nick.  The ramifications of Brexit will continue for a long time yet.
Only because a bunch of shoe-gazing miserable fecks keep whinging on about it! ONWARDS AND SIDEWAYS

SIDEWAYS? That's overly optimistic, especially for an old cumudgeon! 😂

I know the rigorous political debate on tnms (RIP) did put some people off. I just thought it was going nowhere.

You would have thought the cup had truly run dry but some keeps refilling it with procesco  as the party goes on and on.

A good metaphor for life!

General Discussion / Heart issues

Over the last couple of years, I occasionally get a strange sensation. It usually happens if I pick up the pace a bit to get the green man at traffic lights or maybe after going up a couple of flights of stairs. Bizzarly enough though never on the bike even though that can be more strenous than those other activities.  It feels like a wave rising from the pit of my stomach up my body. It feels like if it were to reach my head I would black out. After it happens I feel a little weak but then I'm able to carry on.  Last October I did actually black out. I spent 3 or 4 days in hospital having assessments and they picked up something when my heart was put on a stress test.

As a result I'm here at the Bon Secours in Dublin where the cardiologist has just carried out an angiogram and picked up significant narrowing on a couple of arteries into the heart.  One is 90% blocked. Quite surprised as I've never measured high for cholesterol.

Two stents to be inserted and wire cleaning? on another couple of arteries.

No cycling until after the procedure is carried out. He doesn't want me having a heart attack in the middle of nowhere. Quite sensible really!

A little shocked tbh but pleased its been discovered before something serious happened.
